Here’s a little bit of football news to go with a whole lot of Razorback basketball news:

Terry Wood of The Northwest Arkansas Times writes that Auburn’s hire of Gene Chizik makes Arkansas’ hire of Bobby Petrino look even better.  No kidding.

And if you think the economy is bad, it’s not.  Folks still have money to spend, they just need to stop listening to media reports of doom and gloom.  Exhibit A that people still have cash: more than $7,000 has been raised from UA fans to help support “the care and upkeep of the Razorback Athletic Department’s live mascot, Tusk.”  (Sidenote — technically, isn’t the dude in the mascot suit also a “live” mascot?)



In basketball news:

Nolan Richardson is back in the fold at Arkansas.  Seven years after a bitter divorce from the school, UA and their national championship-winning coach are reunited in this the 15th anniversary of that 1994 title team.

New athletic director Jeff Long deserves credit for bringing Richardson back to Fayetteville.

And Richardson’s longtime assistant Wayne Stehlik served as a go-between to pull off the reunion.
