MSU’s Mullen To Coach Florida In BCS Title Game

New Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen will put on the offensive coordinator headsets for Florida one more time… at the BCS Championship Game in Miami.

Urban Meyer said yesterday, “I think he’s going to coach.  I talked to him (Monday), and right now, the plan is for him to come back after Christmas.  We’ve talked about it.  The goal is to win the game.”

For now, Mullen is busy putting together a staff and recruiting for MSU.  The Gators don’t begin serious bowl work (gameplan installation) until after Christmas.

It seems to be a perfect fit, but I’m still surprised this has worked out.  Mullen’s tight relationship with Tim Tebow no doubt played a role in his decision.

I credit Meyer for doing what is best for his team.  When asked if Mullen will be fully dedicated to the Gators, Meyer said, “Of course he’s not.  He’s got a job to do.  But is the best chance of us winning that game with him the way we do it?  Probably yes.  So right now the plan will be for him to be in the press box and ready to go.”

Kudos also to MSU athletic director Greg Byrne for allowing Mullen to coach the game.  If anything, it’s just more positive exposure for State.  With this news, you can be assured that Fox will have camera focused in on Mullen throughout the game.  And everytime he’s shown, that’ll serve as an ad for Mississippi State.
