John Brantley…the future is healing just fine

Florida
Content provided by Swamp Things – Gators Blog.

JohnBrantley3 After having a spring that builds legends, John Brantley is recovering smoothly from last week's surgery to correct chronic tendonitis in his right ankle. Spoke today with John Brantley III, Brantley's father and coach of Ocala Trinity Catholic, who said his son will be on crutches for four weeks followed by six weeks of rehab.

That should put him at 100 percent by July, Brantley said, ample time to prepare for preseason drills in August. Two-a-days will be crucial for Brantley's development if he plans to filter into the lineup more often in 2009.

Brantley got mop-up time behind Tim Tebow last year as a redshirt freshman, but Coach Urban Meyer has hinted that he'd like to see Brantley play earlier in games, possibly in the first halves.

Brantley III said the coaching staff hasn't hinted to father or son about how playing time will be distributed.  "I guess the situation will dictate all of that," Brantley III said. "Johnny's mentality is that he always has to be prepared."

Brantley dazzled at times during the spring with a monster Saturday scrimmage and a 265-yard, three-touchdown passing performance in the Orange and Blue Game the following week.

"It's really clicked for me that I can do this,"
Brantley said during spring practices. "Once Tebow leaves, and if I'm fortunate enough to get the starting
job, I can run the show"

2009-2010 a more entertaining basketball season?

2009-2010 a more entertaining basketball season?

Dana O’Neil thinks so.

One of her reasons: The blue bloods are back, such as Kansas and Kentucky. And, “thanks to John Calipari turning recruiting into an arms race, there could be so much friction when Kentucky and Louisville meet in Rupp Arena the Commonwealth might actually combust.”

Teebows Going Bye-Bye?

We told you yesterday that those “Teebow” panties wouldn’t be around for long.

Looks like we were right.

Teebows.com has removed all Florida logos and Tim Tebow’s photo from their site.

Seems the Collegiate Licensing Company sent a cease-and-desist letter to the site’s owners stating that they were illegally using the university’s marks and images.

The merchandise is still for sale on the site as of 11:45am this morning… with the question: “What’s under your Gator gear?” being used as a tagline.

Florida News – 4/30/09

As always, there’s plenty of fresh Florida news today:

It’ll be a long four months for UF football fans eager for yet another national title run.

Folks are already debating the draft prospects of quarterback Tim Tebow in 2010.

Want to kill 30 seconds?  Then here’s a quick Q&A with Gator safety Will Hill.  Riveting.

In basketball news, Nick Calathes is preparing for his pre-draft individual workouts by focusing on his leaping ability, perimeter defense and free throw shooting.  Good news for Gator fans… if he comes back to Gainesville next year.

(Don’t count on it.)

But if you do want to believe Calathes will return, here’s a tea leaf you can read: point guard Eric Bledsoe is supposedly choosing between Kentucky and Memphis.  Does that mean he knows Calathes will return to Gainesville next year?

(Of course not.  In fact, it could mean any number of things.)

Former Dawg Gets Time In The Joint

Former Georgia defensive end Michael Lemon will spend the next two weekends in jail as part of a plea bargain stemming from a fight at cookout last summer.

Lemon was charged with felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor battery for punching another UGA student to the ground during an apartment complex cookout.

Mark Richt booted Lemon from the Bulldog team shortly thereafter.

After spending last season at Georgia Military College, Lemon is expected to continue his college career at North Carolina State next fall.

Richt and Fox at the Rome Bulldog Club

    Georgia
Content provided by Georgia Sports Blog.

The Rome News-Tribune has a very solid recap of the local Bulldog Club meeting last night. The linked page has three videos from the evening including one on one interviews with Richt and Fox.

Hoop fans will especially enjoy the first video where Fox outlines his expectations and view of the program. The third video includes a great zinger at Bama’s expense and a great line about our free throw shooting.

    Good stuff.
