Morning News And Notes

Plenty of news to get to today and we’ll start with the SEC coverage a few national writers provide.

In his mailbag, SI.com’s Stewart Mandel tackles a couple of SEC issues:  Will Eric Berry’s Heisman campaign be impacted by fellow safety Taylor Mays’ (Southern Cal) campaign… And will Auburn’s Gus Malzahn offense sneak up on some teams.

In addtion, Mr. Mandel also covers a topic that we wrote about last month: expect more and more non-conference, neutral site, big event type games.

Meanwhile, ESPN.com’s Chris Low has posted a number of stories on his blog:

First he provides a preview of LSU’s season right here.

As we told you yesterday, Kentucky has lost incoming defensive end Donte Rumph due to academics… and that leaves the Wildcats even thinner on the defensive line.

Steve Spurrier says play calling will be a group effort at Carolina.

And finally, ESPNU’s new list of America’s Top 150 high school players includes 35 gridders who’ve already committed to SEC schools.
