Afternoon Grab Bag

Here are a few more notes and blurbs from across the conference today:

1.  Starting tailback Mark Ingram has the flu but it expected to play Saturday against Florida International.

2.  Kevin Scarbinsky of The Birmingham News writes that Rolando McClain’s outburst against Virginia Tech was not in the same ballpark with Orgeron’s LeGarrette Blount’s explosion last week.

3.  Urban Meyer believes “re-tread” NFL coaches are too scared to run the spread in the pros.

4.  Nick Saban’s new contract is worth more than $40 million over nine years.  Go back and read that again.

5.  Tennessee already has future home-and-away series set up with Oregon, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Ohio State, but now Lane Kiffin wants the Vols to line up Southern Cal.

6.  Chris Low of ESPN.com writes that Dan Mullen and Gene Chizik will really get down to business this week… against each other.  (That reads kinda “funny,” don’t it?)

7.  Former Alabama player Jimmy Johns will serve a year in jail after yesterday pleading guilty to separate counts of delivery and possession of a controlled substance.

8.  Ed Orgeron says no one wants to beat UCLA more than he and Kiffin.

9.  Kiffin acts like UCLA’s Norm Chow is a mentor, but I bet Chow doesn’t see it that way.

10.  And finally, Doug Segrest of The Birmingham News provides a preview of this weekend’s SEC action.
