A few more notes from across the conference today:

Love this one right off the bat.  A couple of weeks ago we told you that the American Football Coaches Association wants all teams to shake hands before games this fall in a show of sportsmanship.  Well, Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy isn’t sure he wants his guys fraternizing with Georgia prior to Saturday’s clash.  “I don’t know that we could get it broke up before the game,” if a brawl flared up.

The Sporting News has listed five big subplots for the 2009 season… and three of them involve Florida or Tim Tebow.

Quarterback Ryan Mallett has come full circle to gain the starting job at Arkansas.

Matt Hayes of The Sporting News believes Brandon James will get the first crack at replacing Percy Harvin.

Mississippi State shot-blocker Jarvis Varnado has been released from a North Mississippi hospital, but there’s no explanation for why he fell ill during a Monday workout.

Chris Low of ESPN.com writes that freshman cornerback Stephon Gilmore is ready to represent.  (When did “represent” become such an over-used sports verb?)

Charleston Southern is a school with a religious mission statement… which is fitting considering the David versus Goliath battle they’ll be facing in The Swamp on Saturday.  (There aren’t enough smooth stones in the world to give this year’s “David” a real shot at victory.)

David Ching of The Athens Banner-Herald writes that the Big 12 just isn’t as good as the SEC.  I’m sure Mark Richt appreciates Mr. Ching’s bulletin board material as much as Oklahoma State will.

Here’s one man’s view of the keys to the season for all 12 SEC teams.

Ole Miss athletic director Pete Boone always wants to have one FCS-level school on the Rebels’ schedule.  Chicken.

Like plaid?  Like Kentucky?  Congratulations.

Here’s an SEC notebook column from The Associated Press.
