This morning, I thought I would link around to what the Internet chatter is about the Wall eligibility questions.  I know it’s the hot topic around the Big Blue Nation, and there are tons of questions that everyone has that have been asked an analyzed already by a number of people.

Plus, as usual, there are any number of UK detractors out there weighing in, and we are always interested in making fun of those guys and gals just because … well, mocking them is fun!

This report will be all about Wall.  Later today, we’ll be bringing you more news about the rest of the Big Blue Universe, plus coverage of the ULM/Kentucky game, plus Ken has a special post planned soon, plus … a partridge in a pear tree?  Who knows, maybe even that.

So here we go …

  I would suspect that all of Wall’s teammates have the same problem.

  I suspect one reason Kentucky did not acknowledge anything about a problem with Wall’s eligibility is because of the appearance of impropriety, which opens the floodgates to poking and prodding from all directions.

  Okay, I’m curious, Dan. What appearance of impropriety? Honestly, there isn’t one here. Kentucky has absolutely no involvement other than in an investigative capacity for these matters, and if they aren’t cleared up by the time the season starts, I am confident that Wall will not play.

  You know, I really do like Wolken, of all the MCA writers. He usually gets his facts straight, but I think right now he is desiring a little Cal and UK schadenfreude so bad he has just made up something from whole cloth when it comes to an “appearance of impropriety.”

  Today ESPN reported that the eligibility of Kentucky freshman John Wall is in doubt, but that the future lottery pick may be sidelined for just three or so games. Assuming no new facts come to light, the story was an excellent example of the “WHAT?!…Oh, is that all?” reaction that news professionals now refer to as the balloon boy sequence: shock and fright followed by a shrug.

  The indispensable John Gasaway offers the proper perspective on the Wall issue. It is instructive to note that the NCAA accrediting system for AAU coaches apparently did not ask, before they went to a new , online registration, if Clifton was a registered agent.

  Despite all the rationalizations, the summer (!) of glory, Kentucky fans, broadly speaking, haven’t really faced up to the possibility that while Calipari has them imagining heights they haven’t yet climbed together, he also has the potential to leave their program wrecked again. Maybe they should consider this a reality check.

  Oh. My. God. Seriously, this is supposed to be one of the best Duke sites on the web, and this guy’s analysis is so wrong that one might think he lived in a cave under Cameron Indoor Stadium.

  I will not Fisk this stupidity, as the invaluable John Clay has already ripped it to shreds in a much nicer way than I would be wont to do. Suffice it to say that this article is an unvarnished embarrassment for DBR. It is a simple red herring argument (“Don’t look here, look there!”) that Internet novices typically make their first couple of posts until some savvy respondent embarrasses them. If I were this guy, I would absolutely apologize for my brain fart. Even Duke fans deserve better than this.
