Notes from Lane Kiffin’s teleconference:
* Ole Miss has “a very veteran team” that will present Tennessee with a lot of difficult matchups “especially with their front four on defense.”
* An AP writer asked Kiffin if officiating has put a blemish on the league. “I’ve never thought about it. We’re not allowed to talk about it. I don’t have anything for you. Sorry.”
* Jonathan Crompton has benefited from a healthy receiving corps. He’s also getting more comfortable in Kiffin’s system.
* Tennessee has done a better job in the turnover area recently — offensively and defensively — and that has helped UT play better overall.
* Kiffin said that Ed Orgeron did a great job of recruiting. He said that an NFL scout told him that Ole Miss has four defensive lineman who will all be drafted on Day One of the NFL draft. “I wish we’d been left some of those players.”
* Orgeron deals a lot with team discipline. “We’ve had zero arrests in now 11 months here.” He’s also helped with recruiting. “You see how many great players he left Ole Miss with.”
* Kiffin said that UT’s recent success on offense has helped build confidence, but “it won’t mean anything if we don’t continue to improve.”
* Two-sport players. Yada yada yada. “I really encourage that. … It keeps the student-athlete encouraged all year long.” Kiffin also said that athletes do better in school when they’re in season.
