For the second time in three weeks, Georgia's Jasmine James has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for women's basketball. The league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced the honor on Monday.

Wall Named SEC Freshman of the Week

UK men’s basketball player John Wall was named the SEC Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Wall, a 6-4 guard from Raleigh, N.C., averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in leading the Wildcats to the Cancun Challenge championship. He was named the tournament MVP after he scored a career-high 23 points in leading Kentucky to a 73-65 overtime victory against Stanford in the finals of the Cancun Challenge. He hit a jumper with 30 seconds left in regulation to tie the score and then knocked down two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Alabama junior linebacker Rolando McClain has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Crimson Tide’s 26-21 win over Auburn last Friday, the league office announced Monday morning.

BATON ROUGE — LSU placekicker Josh Jasper has been named the Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking four field goals, including the game-winner in overtime, in the Tigers' 33-30 win over Arkansas on Saturday.

1.  According to FoxSports.com, questions still remain about the BCS.

2.  Numbers guru Jerry Palm breaks down the BCS standings and explains what might happen if Texas loses to Nebraska.

3.  Paul Gattis of The Huntsville Times looks back at the SEC and says balance is the key word… not mediocrity.

4.  Ray Melick of The Birmingham News writes that Alabama and Florida have overcome a lot of distractions to reach the SEC Championship Game.

5.  Gentry Estes of The Mobile Press-Register conveys the following comment from Urban Meyer: “All due respect to the national championship game, I think (the SEC title game) is very similar.”

6.  If it feels like Alabama and Florida are always meeting in the SEC title game… they are.  The SEC’s two most dominant programs of the past 20 years will meet in their 7th title bout since 1992 on Saturday.  (Florida holds a 4-2 advantage.)

    SEC East Headlines – 11/30/09

    1.  Just in time for a date with Alabama’s defense, Florida’s offense is starting to get more comfortable.  (Could be FIU and FSU as opponents… rather than SEC teams.)

    2.  Gators versus Tide is the dream matchup folks have been pining for all season.

    3.  Urban Meyer says “This is a one-game season now.”

    4.  Florida will be healthier for this year’s title game than they were for last year’s.

    5.  Charlie Strong is focused on Alabama, not potential head coaching jobs.

    6.  So much for Georgia falling behind Georgia Tech.  A dominant run attack destroyed Tech on Saturday.

    7.  This writer shares the good, the bad and the ugly from the Dawgs’ big upset.

    8.  Georgia’s tailbacks had written the message “I Run This State” on their various body parts before the win.

    9.  UGA is now in the discussion for the Chick-fil-A Bowl, but the folks making that decision say they “don’t have any idea” what they’re going to do.

    14.  This writer believes Lane Kiffin and staff got more out of players than the previous staff did.

    22.  And since no one’s really written ANYTHING about Vandy football or basketball in a couple of days, we’ll throw this one out: Warren Norman can now gun for CJ Spiller’s career record for kickoff returns.  Spiller has seven.  Norman had three as a freshman.
