1. Auburn will face Northwestern — for the first time ever — in the Outback Bowl.
2. Auburn AD Jay Jacobs cold-called bowl officials after the Iron Bowl to talk up the excitement level in his program. (The Outback Bowl took note of the Tigers’ wins over Tennessee and Ole Miss as well as their strong game against Alabama.)
3. “Everything about Auburn says big-time, tradition-rich and success,” said the president of the Outback Bowl.
4. Auburn is expecting to sell a lot of tickets to the Tampa game. (Regardless of what anybody else says, THAT is why bowls pick teams.)
5. In basketball news, Auburn will make its first appearance on television tonight when the Tigers host Virginia.
6. Job one for AU will be to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Troy.
