Tennessee Recruiting Update

Tennessee received commitments from three prospects this weekend.

The commitments came from defensive backs Dave Clark and Dontavis Sapp and linebacker John Propst.

The commitments fill needs for UT, writes Dave Hooker of the Knoxville News Sentinel.

“Basically, the playing time is going to be up to me and what I do in practice,” Clark said.

Propst’s commitment to UT could be key because the Vols are in danger of losing the commitment of Glen Stanley, who visited Southern California this weekend.

Stanley told USCFootball.com he will “see what happens” when he decides to sign with a school on Wednesday. Stanley had an interesting description on the status of his commitment to UT.

“I’m committed to Tennessee still, but I’d say I’m open,” he told the Web site.

UT could also lose the commitment of defensive end J.C. Copeland from LaGrange, Ga. He visited LSU this past weekend and received an offer from the Tigers.

Copeland said he’s still committed to UT but remains “neutral” between the Vols and LSU. He will announce his final decision on Wednesday.

UT also received a visit from wide receiver Markeith Ambles, who originally committed to the Vols before decommitting in January.

Ambles told Volquest.com he plans to choose among UT, USC and North Carolina on Wednesday.

“I’m just going to sleep like it’s any other day, and whenever I wake up Wednesday, whatever that’s what I’m going to go with,” he told the Web site.

Florida Recruiting Notes

Florida is working on finishing up what will likely rank as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country to most recruiting services.

The Gators’ commitment list is currently ranked No. 1 by Rivals, Scout and ESPN.

One of the top prospects committed to Florida is defensive tackle Shariff Floyd, a defensive tackle from Philadelphia’s George Washington High School.

A story recently floated around that Florida coach Urban Meyer told Floyd he should coach Floyd, even if it meant dying on the field while doing so. Floyd said that story wasn’t true.

“That never came out of my mouth and never came out of (my coach’s) mouth,” Floyd told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Tight end Michael McFarland will enroll at Florida in January, which is sooner than he previously planned. McFarland originally expected to grayshirt in 2010 and enroll in January 2011.

Highly-touted linebacker Jordan Hicks, who committed to Texas Friday, was concerned about uncertainty surrounding Florida and Meyer’s future.

Other prospects aren’t as concerned about Meyer’s health.

He’ll be back in March,” said Atlanta running back Mack Brown, who’s committed to Florida. “I hope he’s back then because that’s when (spring) practice starts, but if he isn’t, I expect him to be back by the season in August.”

Georgia Lands Two Prospects For 2011

Georgia is getting a head start on its 2011 class before National Signing Day for 2010 arrives.

The Bulldogs picked up commitments from athlete Chris Sanders and safety Corey Moore during the weekend.

Both Sanders and Moore are in-state prospects. Georgia annually battles teams from around the Southeast who targets the state’s top prospects.

“I’ve always been a Dawg fan growing up, and I love Georgia,” Moore said. “This is the perfect place for me to play football and get my education.”

Georgia Loses One Rogers, Could Lose Another

Georgia has lost a commitment from Deon Rogers, who switched his pledge to Louisville during the weekend.

The linebacker from Port St. Lucie, Fla., said he felt more comfortable at Louisville than Georgia.

“I just felt like Louisville was a better fit,” Rogers told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “Georgia fired the coach that was recruiting me (John Jancek) and I just never felt as comfortable after that. I still like Georgia as a school and as a football program . But I’d built a bond and a relationship with Coach Jancek and I never really got that back.”

Georgia hopes to still get Da’Rick Rogers now that he’s returned home from a second trip to Tennessee.

The wide receiver from Calhoun (Ga.) High School took an unofficial visit to UT Sunday to watch the Vols’ basketball team play Florida. Rogers, who’s been committed to Georgia since June, attended the game with Calhoun quarterback Nash Nance, who committed to UT last week.

Rogers and Nance took official visits to UT on Jan. 22.

Rogers plans to announce his final decision between Georgia and UT on Wednesday. His recruitment has turned chaotic, writes Chip Towers from the AJC.
