Could There Be A “Lane Kiffin Sewage Center” In Knoxville?

At some point, it’s time to just let go. 

I think that point was reached sometime last Tuesday when a gaggle of Tennessee students tried to block Lane Kiffin’s car from exiting the UT campus.

Since then, Tennessee fans have spread stories about Kiffin’s alleged drinking, DUIs, carousing, etc.  Some websites even claim to have had photos of Kiffin messin’ around, but — darn the luck — the coach and his entourage grabbed the shooter’s camera and deleted the evidence. 

So suddenly Kiffin’s Sean Penn?  (This website might have more credibility if a Knoxville Lexus dealership hadn’t revealed yesterday that the coach’s insurance company had covered the damage to his wrecked car.)

All of this tabloid talk only keeps the name “Kiffin” connected to the name “Tennessee,” something smart Vol fans should be trying to avoid.

Oh, well.

Enter a Knoxville attorney who is now making national news with his attempt to rename a waste water treatment plant after the Vols’ old coach.

Drew McElroy has filed paperwork with the Knoxville City Council’s Public Properties and Facilities Naming Committee — wow, how does someone get on that committee? — to rename a plant the “Lane Kiffin Sewage Center.”

Attention, People of Tennessee.  It’s time to let this one go.  You have a new coach.  Best support him and forget the old one.  Lest people across America continue to mock your over-the-top reaction.
