SEC West Headlines – 1/29/10

1.  If you’s think Alabama’s having a good year recruiting this year… wait til 2011.

2.  After another national championship, Alabama is on alert for unauthorized companies using Bama names and trademarks.

3.  A statue of Nick Saban could be in place on the UA campus in time for the Crimson Tide’s spring game.

4.  The six Tide players at the Senior Bowl are getting a lot of attention.

5.  Auburn defensive Antonio Coleman is glad to be in his hometown of Mobile for the Senior Bowl.

6.  New Tiger quarterback Cameron Newton is looking to rebuild his image on The Plains.

7.  Jeff Lebo’s team blew another lead last night as Ole Miss escaped Auburn with an 84-74 road win.

8.  Auburn’s defense is the worst in the SEC.

9.  Courtney Fortson dropped 35 points on Mississippi State in a 67-62 Arkansas win last night.

10.  Attendance was down last night (partly because of a winter storm), but the Razorbacks pulled through with some good bench play.

11.  John Pelphrey credited the students who did show up last night.

12.  MSU had a double-digit lead midway through the second half… but that’s when Fortson took over.

13.  How good was Fortson?  In the second half he scored as many points (33) as the Bulldogs’ entire team.

14.  State can’t seem to make good on late-game possessions.

15. MSU was able to get out of Fayetteville this morning on a charter jet.  Now they’ll have to quickly get their legs under them and be ready to face rested LSU tomorrow afternoon.

16.  In Oxford, it still sounds like Dave Rader is the favorite to land the Rebels’ offensive coordinator job…

17.  But former Auburn quarterback and former Miami offensive coordinator Patrick Nix is also being mentioned.

18.  Terrico White scored 17 second half points to lead Ole Miss past Auburn.

19.  Chris Warren added 20 for UM.

20.  Andy Kennedy’s guards were the difference in last night’s game.

21.  LSU can’t afford to lose focus after falling to 0-6 in the SEC.  (You mean things could get worse?)
