Current Football Salaries In The SEC

What I’m about to do is near impossible.  Due to bonuses, sides clauses, funds from booster clubs, etc… it’s hard to list the exact salaries of the SEC’s football coaches.  Heck, as a private school Vanderbilt doesn’t even have to reveal what they pay Bobby Johnson, though most believe it to be around $1 million per year.

Still, here’s the current payroll as best as I can find from going through our MrSEC story archives.

We’ve tried to rank the coaches by the pay they’re scheduled to make this year.  Nick Saban, for example, is due to earn $4.1 million in 2010 while his entire contract will average out to about $4.7 million per season.  So we show his 2010 number.

Also while Steve Spurrier’s salary is $1.75 million, he made $2,031,000 with bonuses and incentives in the past year (according to USA Today).  The same is true for Bobby Petrino who is listed at $2.7 million by the state of Arkansas, but pulled in more than $2.8 million last year.

As I said, it’s near impossible to get a completely accurate breakdown… but this should give you a good ballpark idea of who’s making what:

Coach School Pay
Nick Saban Alabama $4,100,000
Urban Meyer Florida $4,000,000
Les Miles LSU $3,751,000
Mark Richt Georgia $3,096,576
Bobby Petrino Arkansas $2,858,000
Houston Nutt Ole Miss $2,509,000
Gene Chizik Auburn $2,100,000
Steve Spurrier South Carolina $2,031,000
Derek Dooley Tennessee $1,800,000
Joker Phillips Kentucky $1,700,000
Dan Mullen Mississippi State $1,200,000
Bobby Johnson Vanderbilt $1,000,000
