Florida Gators working on depth at QB and TE

Florida
Content provided by Swamp Things – Gators Blog.

Practice is starting soon, and I’m curious to see how many snaps QB-turned-TE Jordan Reed takes the rest of the spring. Reed worked out of the shotgun on Monday and looked pretty solid. His presence might provide much-needed depth behind John Brantley. Besides, Brantley’s primary backup, early enrollee Trey Burton, should be getting ready for the prom.

But Reed is also one of two healthy tight ends in this spring’s effort to replace Aaron Hernandez. Neither early enrollee Gerald Christian nor Reed, a redshirt freshman, have collegiate game experience. Redshirt freshman TE Desmond Parks is out after wrist surgery.

It’s my guess that Florida thinks Reed is capable enough to handle the workload for both positions. That’s why Reed could prove to be one of Florida’s most valuable players come fall.

Sowers Released, Fuller Wins Player of the Year Award

Vanderbilt
Content provided by Vanderbilt Sports Line.

My classmate and former 1st round selection Jeremy Sowers has apparently be released by the Indians according to FoxSports, http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/jeremy-sowers/news/376111.

They say he will head to the minors if he clears waivers but I can’t imagine another team not jumping at the chance to get a good lefty prospect this late in the spring. While Sowers hasn’t lived up to his potential yet, he is still very young (Pitchers like Quarterbacks often don’t hit their prime till their late 20′s early 30′s in my opinion). I’d love to see my Mets pick him up as our entire pitching staff (with the exception of Santana) is horrendous.

Also Kyle Fuller, who I think is going to be VERY important to the basketball team’s success next season was named HS Gametime Player of the Year. Whatever that means. Here’s an article and the video that goes along with it. Good stuff.
