Dee Bost Reinstated by NCAA

Alabama
Content provided by Alabama Basketball Blog.

The Mi$$i$$ippi $tate PG who declared for the NBA draft, then waited until after the deadline to withdraw, has been reinstated by the NCAA and will be eligible to play for $tansbury this year. Since this is a family friendly blog, I will keep my thoughts on the matter to myself.

Alabama
Content provided by Tide Corner – al.com.

No, 10-7-3-0 is not the combination to my bicycle lock. But it may be the secret to unlock the potential to this 2010 Crimson Tide football team. In case you don’t recognize it, it’s the quarter-by-quarter Arkansas score last week….

Parrish: Pelphrey Saves Job With Elite Recruits

John Pelphrey is safe at Arkansas because he’s just landed his fourth Top 100 recruit for the class of 2011.  At least, that’s the take of CBSSports.com’s Gary Parrish.  Actually, this is the take of Parrish:

“John Pelphrey is not on the hot seat because there’s no way an athletic director with a brain is firing a coach before this recruiting class enrolls, which means Pelphrey will be the coach at Arkansas for the 2011-12 season regardless of what happens in 2010-11.”

Parrish believes only “something scandalous and rule-breaking” could cost Pelphrey his job.  (He fires a zinger at a certain orange-blazered SEC coach by suggesting that lying to the NCAA might qualify.)

Personally, I’m not so sure that Pelphrey just went from doomed to untouchable.  The real world doesn’t often operate in absolutes.

Sure, Razorback fans have been impatient with Pelphrey and they’ve certainly had to endure a number of off-court issues by his players, but the coach inherited an unholy mess from Stan Heath.  Athletic director Jeff Long knows that and he’s been firmly in Pelphrey’s corner as he’s tried to lay the foundation for a stable program.  So it’s debatable that Pelphrey might have been ousted after a bad showing this year anyway.

That said, Parrish is correct to suggest that Pelphrey’s four hotshot 2011 prospects give him more job security.

“So it doesn’t matter if the Hogs lose every game this season, doesn’t matter if the administration loses faith in its coach,” he writes.  “John Pelphrey will be at Arkansas for at least another two years.”

At least that’s the take of Parrish.

Stallings Takes The Tide, Natch

The man who led Alabama a national championship in 1992 — and almost led Texas A&M to the SEC this summer — just happens to like… wait for it… Alabama in this weekend’s clash with Florida.

When asked about Saturday’s game, Gene Stallings had this to say:

”When it’s all said and done, when you have Florida’s team and you have Alabama’s team, you’ll take Alabama’s team.  The way Alabama can play defense and run the football, they’re going to win.  I think Alabama’s the best football team.  I think they’ll win by 10 or 12 points.”

Stallings will be honored at halftime of Saturday’s showdown.  So what’d you think he’d say?
