Looks Like McElwain’s Out At CU; McCartney Was Just Tryin’ To Help A Brother Out

According to The Denver Post’s John Henderson, former Buffaloes player Jon Embree will be the next head coach in Boulder.  A source tells the paper that it’s a “done deal” and ex-coach Bill McCartney says former Buff Eric Bieniemy will serve as offensive coordinator.

But CU athletic director Mike Bohn has yet to make the hire official and even denied that the search committee had finished its work.

Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain had interviewed for the job.

McCartney — who retired from Colorado in the mid-90s to help run the religious organization “Promise Keepers” — said that he was never a serious candidate for the job.

“It was never about me doing it again,” McCartney said.  “It was about setting the table for a black man to come in (as head coach).  And (Bohn) hired one.  Now, give him a chance.”

McCartney also gave Bohn credit for hiring “outstanding black leaders.”

Embree and Bieniemy are both black.  We try not to pay too much attention to skin tone around here.  Sounds like McCartney can’t say the same.

Either way, it looks like McElwain will remain Alabama’s offensive coordinator.  At least for now.
