If Florida makes a run at Dan Mullen — as many expect — then it would make sense that Miami would have no chance at the ex-Gator assistant. And that might explain why Mullen’s name is no longer a hot one in South Florida.
But what if Miami and Mullen say “no thanks” to one another and then UF decides to go in another direction — Kyle Whittingham, Bobby Petrino, etc?
Most of the talk in Miami this morning is focusing on three candidates for the Canes: Temple’s Al Golden, UConn’s Randy Edsall and Texas Tech’s Tommy Tuberville.
According to the Palm Beach Post, Mullen’s name is no longer on the list of names to watch.
The Miami Herald reports that Hurricane AD Kirby Hocutt has already spoken with Mullen (pre-Urban Meyer news), Edsall and Tuberville. Bo Pelini is expected to be interviewed next.
The fact that Mullen’s no longer a key target of Miami tells us that Mullen is either:
1) Going to stay in Starkville
or
2) Going to head to Gainesville
Well, State fans, at least Miami appears to be out of the running.
