When Will Muschamp landed the Florida head coaching job, it was believed that he would pursue former Georgia teammate and current Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.
The Tuscaloosa News reported earlier this week that Smart was mulling a UF offer, but leaning toward staying at Bama. On Tuesday, Muschamp said that he’d made no job offers to anyone.
Yesterday, Nick Saban took his turn before the microphones.
“We’re pleased that (Smart) is interested in staying at the University of Alabama. I don’t know anything about anything else. Our guys are pretty good and pretty loyal. If anybody talks to them, they immediately let me know.”
Saban said no one has contacted him about talking with Smart.
“Typically, if somebody is interested in one of your coaches, they contact you. I’ve talked to Will on several occasions. Kirby has done nothing but indicate to me that he wants to stay at the University of Alabama. I trust that’s what he’ll do.”
Anybody else think Saban is sending Muschamp a “you better talk to me first” message?
