Janoris Jenkins stayed in school. he was a strong 1st round contender. 11 of 32...damn.
Mel Kiper has published his latest mock draft for April’s NFL selection meetings and, as usual, the SEC sits at the head of the table.
Check this out:
1. Carolina Panthers — Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
2. Denver Broncos — Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
3. Buffalo Bills — Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
In addition, Kiper has AJ Green (#6 to Cleveland) and Cam Newton (#10 to Washington) in the Top 10. That’s half of the top 10 picks in the draft coming from just one conference.
Overall, Kiper projects 10 SEC players to be taken in the first round…
* Julio Jones (#14 to St. Louis)
* Mark Ingram (#15 to Miami)
* Mike Pouncey (#19 to the New York Giants)
* Justin Houston (#24 to New Orleans)
* Ryan Mallett (#25 to Seattle)
… which means 10 of the 32 best players in the country — in Kiper’s view — came from the SEC.
Not too shabby, eh?
