The announcements have come and gone and all told the SEC will lose twelve underclassmen to April’s NFL draft. So much for coaches warning their players about an impending lockout in the pro league. Looks like agents’ warnings of a rookie salary cap coming with the next collective bargaining agreement carried more weight. Better to get your deal now — and sit — than to risk injury in 2011, then go pro under a cap.
Below are the SEC’s departing fourteen. Obviously, a lot of talent is walking out the door.
Darvin Adams, WR, Auburn
Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky
Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
AJ Green, WR, Georgia
Tori Gurley, WR, South Carolina
Will Hill, FS, Florida
Justin Houston, LB, Georgia
Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
Jerrell Powe, DE, Ole Miss
Stevan Ridley, RB, LSU
(Typed the list and done and went and left Nick Fairley’s name off. Sorry. It happens. Also added Darvin Adams, whose decision has now been reported by two sites. Also added Jerrell Powe’s name to the list.)
