Cam's father costs him $$$ every time he opens his mouth. How many endorsement deals could this kid have had? My wife -- who HATES college football -- actually got on the bandwagon for a couple of games. Now she just rolls her eyes whenever she hears the name.

Cam needs to hire an agent he trusts and politely ask dad to go keep his mouth shut.

SEC fan...

I believe Mississippi State is part of the SEC, so when we say the league took a hit, that means they did, too. However, MSU didn't pay the Newtons. They didn't land Cam. And they turned the Newtons in. So like it or not, MSU's reputation did not take the beating that Auburn's did through all of this. Had Newton been playing for the Bulldogs -- and the nation's media turned their eyes on them -- they would have. But he wasn't... and they didn't.

As for the "pitiful journalism" line, I always laugh when I see that one tossed around on a messageboard. Seems it's always "bad" journalism when a fan's own team gets called out but it's "good" solid, investigative journalism when a rival is examined. Just wondering, which J-school did you go to? Columbia? Missouri? Those two really have great reputations.

Thanks for reading,

What continues to amaze me is that writers like yourself continue to say the SEC and Auburn took hits to their reputation. Yet you did not list Mississippi State. News flash: they are the ones that have admitted having the discussions with Cecil Newton!!! No one wants to talk about that...because nobody cares about Miss State. But if they can get a few web hits from banging on the National Champions, they go ahead and do it. Pitiful journalism.
