Nutt Working To Finalize Staff Before Next Weekend

Houston Nutt spoke with the press at halftime of last night’s Ole Miss-MSU basketball game, but he wouldn’t get into specifics about who’s coming — or going — from his Rebel coaching staff.

Ole Miss is looking to make two hires.  Nutt said that he would like to have those coaches in place in time for next weekend’s recruiting visits.  That was it.  No more details.

According to Kyle Veazey of The Jackson Clarion-Ledger, two current UM coaches are rumored to be in the running for other jobs:


* Receivers coach Ron Dickerson is a candidate for the head coaching job at Gardner-Webb

* Safeties coach Kim Dameron reportedly interviewed at Texas Tech yesterday


Parrish Alford of The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that there are four names to watch when it comes to potential hires:


* Kansas State defensive backs coach Keith Burns (who was Nutt’s D-coordinator at Arkansas in 1998 and 1999)

* Oklahoma State receivers coach Gunter Brewer (son of former UM head coach Billy Brewer)

* Minnesota Vikings receivers coach George Stewart

* Former Miami (FL) tight ends and special teams coach Joe Pannunzio (a former staff member at Ole Miss under Tommy Tuberville)
