Richt Gets Good News As Two Dogs Stay

It’s not been a good couple of weeks for Mark Richt:

* A 10-6 loss to UCF in the Liberty Bowl dropped Georgia to 6-7 on the year

* AJ Green turned pro

* Many have speculated that star outside linebacker Justin Houston will turn pro, too

* Linebacker Marcus Dowtin was given a release when it was learned he’d been arrested last year in a bar fight… and hadn’t told his coach about it

* New AD Greg McGarity had to beg Bulldog fans to continue donating money even if though many are upset about UGA’s football program

* And even old Dawg Fran Tarkenton ripped Richt for his postseason press conference (and possibly for playing his music too loud)

Finally Georgia’s coach got a little good news yesterday.  Cornerback Brandon Boykin and offensive lineman Cordy Glenn announced that they would return to Athens for their senior seasons.

“This is exciting news for Georgia and for Brandon and Cordy,” Richt said in a press release.  “I think they have both made wise decision for the right reasons and will be important senior leaders for us this coming year.  We’re recruiting 24/7 right now, but these two are a big part of our ‘recruiting class.’”

The next big catch is Houston, of course.  Georgia’s official announcement that Boykin and Glenn would return said that there is “not yet” word on the Dawgs’ top pass rusher’s NFL decision.

With Richt facing a make or break season in 2011, he needs as many of his stars to return as possible.
