Just a few tidbits from around the SEC’s coaching merry-go-round this morning:
* Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee will probably be back in Fayetteville next year. Though he interviewed for the head coaching job at UConn, it looks like the Huskies are going with former Miami assistant Mark Whipple. McGee was also believed to be on the short list at Tulsa — where he’s from — but the Golden Hurricane are rumored to be most interested in former offensive coordinator Chad Morris… who just left Tulsa for Clemson in the past week.
* FootballScoop.com is reporting that Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen has an interest in Florida International defensive coordinator Geoff Collins. Mullen has promoted Chris Wilson to defensive coordinator (replacing Manny Diaz) and is looking for a co-coordinator (to replace Wilson). Collins has coached in Florida for the past few seasons (good for recruiting) and once held the “director of player personnel” slot at Alabama.
* A number of news outlets reported last evening that Alabama tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Bobby Williams interviewed with the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. Williams worked with new Cowboys coach Jason Garrett on Nick Saban’s Miami Dolphins staff. FootballScoop.com reports that Williams did not interview with Dallas.
* The Palm Beach Post is reporting today that Miami offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland might be heading from Coral Gables to Tuscaloosa. Stoutland would replace Joe Pendry who “has reportedly told Saban he is retiring.” Stoutland was one of three assistants retained by new coach Al Golden and he also served as the Hurricanes’ interim head coach during their 33-17 Sun Bowl loss to Notre Dame.
* New Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis was not in Gainesville as of yesterday afternoon and Florida officials say no official start date has been set for him. Kansas City was eliminated from the NFL playoffs on Sunday. Weis is now free to start work — and start recruiting — whenever he arrives in the Sunshine State.
* New Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is still working with the Seattle Seahawks following their shocking upset of New Orleans on Sunday.
