The big problem with this blind comparison is that you don't see the record against the top 50 or top 100 teams. If somebody has the hardest schedule and went 0-8 against the top teams, but went 20-2 against the bad teams, they do not deserve to dance. But if a team went 6-1 against top teams and 13-7 against the rest, but their SOS was lower, they should get the chance to go to the tourney.
Blind comparisons are great and fun, but you do need a little more to compare than just those 3 columns we were given.

BamaNation...

Not sure Byron was arguing with me. I'm providing the numbers the NCAA uses and trying to show you how they use them. We're certainly not the first to use this "blind comparison" method. Networks have done it for years.

So if Byron was arguing with me, he might need to take his complaints to the Selection Committee in Indianapolis. We're just showing you the info they use.

That said, if you don't want that information, you're welcome to go somewhere else. Free country.

Byron, trying to reason with Johnny P. is a waste of time. If he's willing to put a team with a 127 Strength of Schedule in the tournament, I'd bet he'd pick, from stats only, a woman that's 5'6" - 340 lbs - no hair or eyebrows, loves Lone Star Beer.

Oh and one more thing.............would you pick your wife from a sheet of statistics?

5' 2" - 115 lbs - blonde, blue eyes, great sense of humor

or

5' 6" - 140 lbs - brown hair, brown eyes, loves music

Now let's say the first one is Joan Rivers..........and the second one is J Lo -- does that chance your mind?

Part of the problem too, is that the RPI and SOS factors treat the variance between team #1 and team #101 as they do team #201 and team #301....... and let's be honest, there's a big difference between Ohio State and St Peters......much bigger than SE Louisiana and Florida A&M. So, a team like Alabama, whose RPI is at 79, because their SOS is 125.......and then you look at who they've played: Purdue, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Okla State, Ole Miss (2x), Georgia, Seton Hall, Providence, Iowa, etc.........plus road games at Arkansas, Miss State, etc.... ...how can you say that they've played a weak schedule. It's because they also have games against 5 or so, 300+ RPI teams, and because LSU and Auburn were both horrible..........

Had LSU and Auburn had RPIs in the 150s, we wouldn't be having this conversation..........yes, the South Floridas, and Wake Forests, and other power conference schools that had weak teams too.......never seem to come up in conversations.

The whole system is a bit screwy!

I understand the goal of bringing some objective metrics to a subjective exercise, but how accurate are SOS numbers in the end? In CFB, you routinely see a conference with several teams high in SOS, "building each other up," that just don't past the eyeball test -- and then we confirm our suspicions in out of conference games, such as bowls.

On the other hand, have teams like my Tar Heels who go from a last-second three to beat FSU to throttling Duke - and people only remember the last game. Suddenly we're a 2 seed.

My point -- it's all still incredibly subjective. I would hate to be a Committee member.
