As a strong Vol fan (don't get me going on Pearl), I hate to admit that if we lose to Arkansas, we just don't deserve it at 18-14. Those are simply NIT numbers to me!

Houstonvol...

Speaking to someone with knowledge of the selection process, Tennessee's off-court issues should not play a role. If a team is eligible then its eligible. Now, does that mean an individual debating in his head Team A versus Team B won't let knowledge of UT's troubles creep into his head? No. But if a team is eligible -- and UT is -- then the committee is supposed to consider them just like any other team.

Thanks for reading,

How much do you think the cloud hanging over the UT program effects their bubble position and might keep them out of the NCAA or have them receive a bad first round game, or even opening round game? I personally would love a 12 seed for UT. That would give us a winnable first and second round game. A number 8/9 seed would have us advancing to play a #1 seed.

Bama Nation...

We list each and every stat you'll see in the chart... from 1 through 10... all in order at the top of the story. On the chart, without room to type "Losses to Teams Outside the Top 100" we simply used "Bad Losses." We assumed that someone could grasp if 1 = A and 2 = B and 3 = C and 4 = D and 5 = E and 6 = F and 7 = G and 8 = H and I = 9 that then J would = 10.

We assumed wrong.

ndo3639...

You are correct. I was initially considering using a stat that showed each team's record against its last five Top 50 opponents... Alabama was 2-3 in that stat. I was thinking 2-3 and typed it when it should indeed have been 3-3.

This has been corrected. My apologies.

As for head-to-head versus computer numbers, that all comes down to the selection committee. Sometimes they use head-to-head, sometimes they use computers. Example: Ole Miss beat Alabama the last time they met, but Bama is a tourney contender while Ole Miss is not.

It's always tough to figure out what the committee uses and why when it comes to separating two teams from each other.

That stat is losses outside the Top 100 in RPI. It's spelled out just above the chart. Learn to read.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Alabama have 3 wins versus top 50 (Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia). I know that maybe a small detail, but shouldn't head to head mean more than computer numbers?
