This is turning out to be a smart move by Hamilton. He held off firing Pearl in September – not because he did not want to. If he had fired Pearl in Sept, he would have had to fire the whole staff. This would have preventing him in promoting a temp coach from with-in. Plus what selection of coaches would you have been able to select from that would leave their current program 2 months before the season? So you would have had to hire someone without a lot of /or no head coaching experience. Plus they would have had a hard time completing an experienced staff that is needed to compete at this level. By waiting until the end of the season, UT can now compete for the best coaches out there. If they hire one with a clean history, then might be able to shift the bulk of punishment to Pearl and avoid the hammer.

The whole talk that only Bruce could win here, I don't buy. The old AD's never supported the basketball program. It was always that other sport. Women's BB took care of itself, and the AD only focused on Football. Now that basketball has full support from the University and the community, I think there are many coaches that would jump at the chance to coach UT; depending on the penalties handed down against the program. One thing I have said for a while – with all of the new money coming into the league, it is not the football product that will improve, it will be the basketball products that will be the biggest gainer from the money. In 5 years, I expect the SEC to be on top in basketball as well as football. When people think college basketball it will be the Big East and the SEC as the top conferences. The ACC and B10 will be the 3rd/4th ranked leagues.

I think the plan all along was to finish this off after the season. Face it. The poop hit the fan in September. What coach would we be able to hire in the middle of September? College Basketball coaches are hired in March and April, not September. We would have been hiring someone that would be willing to abandon their program right before the season starts. Would we really want that type of person leading our basketball program. I am sure that Hammy has been working behind the scenes all season knowing what coaches are interested in coming aboard.

Mike Hamilton's mistake's were hiring a coach who lied and covered up a violation and not firing him when it came out. For all the complaints about that Kiffin he is not being charged with lying to the NCAA. If you want Hamilton fired then you should want Bruce Pearl fired.

I STILL don't get why folks keep harping on the AD when the CEO/ 'President' of UT is responsible. Who's running this company the AD or the CEO? A public board would have demanded the CEO either do something about this or he'd be replaced. Happens all the time. Ultimately, he's responsible for the 'company' / university, not the AD. Unless UT is run by the Athletic Department. Perhaps that's the case.

What in the world does that last comment mean? Mike wishes it didn't come out like this. What? The guy did an interview, a taped interview. The question was asked more than once and answered the same way, each time. What does that mean? That Hamilton didn't know that the interview would be played on the radio, a show that comes on at 3:00 PM every day, hosted by the guy who conducted the interview? That Hamilton didn't know when the UT caravan would be headed to Charlotte that day? That Hamilton didn't know the players would have to deal with this upon their arrival in Charlotte? Or does it mean he was forced to do the interview by people above his pay grade? What does it mean? It is off the charts nuts. Then to apologize some hours later?

That Cam Tatum, had to go before the media and do the obligatory coach will be here routine is shameful. Mired in a slump that knows no end, and these grown men make him stand up there and face that circus, on the eve of their first round game with Michigan, and Duke in the on deck circle. He doesn't have better things to do with his time than to get up their and play his part in a man made disaster not of his own making? Shame!

Once again, when is Tennessee going to fire this goon? No, I'm not referring to Pearl. I'm referring to Hamilton who is obviously lacking the brain power necessary to run a major athletic department. As a Tennessee alumnus, that has been painfully obvious for quite some time. Are the powers that be at Tennessee not tired of being dragged into giant mess after giant mess by Hamilton? I still can't get over the fact that Mike was in Africa during the basketball season (while Pearl was suspended) and an NCAA investigation (that was very close to including the words "lack of institutional control"). That takes some serious gall and/or stupidity.
