Tennessee has fired Bruce Pearl. The coach and the school are still working on a buyout even though the school does not owe him one. Though offered a contract last fall, Pearl chose not to sign it.
UT is choosing to give him a buyout to reward him for his work, but — as we noted earlier — the other reason for that could be to persuade Pearl to go quietly and allow the Tennessee program to get a summary disposition from the NCAA. That rushed judgement can only be given if all parties agree on all facts, meaning Pearl would have to accept what the NCAA is accusing him of and not put up a fight.
We’ll have more as it develops.
(Sidenote — Also, we’ll be upping our server strength once a-frickin’-gain in the next few days. We like growing exponentially, but these occasional crashes are a pain. Rest assured — we’re working on it.)
