UK-WKU Football Game Moved To Thursday

Kentucky’s season-opening game against Western Kentucky has been moved from Saturday, September 3rd to Thursday, September 1st.

The game at Nashville’s LP Field will be moved to make room for a Tennessee State game.  TSU has first dibs on LP Field.  Which begs the question: Why are two Kentucky teams playing in Nashville in the first place?  (We know, we know… recruiting.)

A kickoff time and broadcast partner have not been named yet.

John,

Your humor was not completely lost. I got it, as I'm sure many others did. I particularly enjoyed the backhanded, albeit sarcastic, slap at TN recruiting (even though I personally feel TN has better players than they get credit for). Anyway, as always, appreciate the site, even the random tidbits.

Jonathan,

Thanks for the complements about the site. But there was no sarcastic slap at recruiting in Tennessee.

Here's what I should have written:

Kentucky and Western Kentucky will play in Nashville on a Thursday night. The game is being moved from Saturday due to a Tennessee State game. The two Kentucky schools have agreed to play in the larger, out-of-state venue in order to aid recruiting in Central Kentucky and the metro Nashville area.

If I don't convey information like the robot in "Lost In Space," I leave things open to interpretation... and folks see a lot of things that aren't really there.

Again, thanks for the nice comments about the site.

This was probably a home game for WKU. However WKU moved their home game to Nashville to be able to sell it out with UK fans and count the attendence toward their home game average. Which is what the NCAA watches to maintain their 1B status. I use the acronym of 1B (FBS) and 1C (FCS). It is easier to say and remember then FCS/FBS. I still prefer 1A and 1AA, but those are no longer allowed. 1B = division 1 bowl division, and 1C = division 1 championship division, work nicely. Wyoming did this a few years ago with an UT game. They moved their home game to nashville for a nice paycheck and the ability to count the gate toward their average. Happens all the time with the lower tiered 1B teams.

HoustonVol...

I was kidding. Simply pointing out the oddity of two teams from Kentucky coming across the Tennessee border to play a football game.

Thanks,
John
