Jim Haslem will have the say if he hasn't already. Nothing big happens at TN unless it goes through Big Jim first. Jim Haslem is the owner and founder of Pilot Oil Co. His son Bill Haslem happens to be the Governor of Tennessee. Jim Haslem also owns a small percentage of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played on Neyland's 1951 National championship team.

The truth is there is no good reason to fire Hamilton now. He took one for the administration. The Football and Basketball coaches are in place, so except for a possible Baseball hire firing Hamilton will have a real affect. Hamilton's future is in Dooley and Martin's hands now

I think the last paragraph is what is telling. Perhaps Cheek has better PR skills than Hamilton and is smart enough not to hint that he is going to fire somebody before the time is ripe. I really don't know what will happen, but I won't be convinced one way or the other until the process is completely over and we hear what Cheek has to say then.
