It was a 7-6 on the field season. saban actually threw quite a fit about those 5 vacated wins and tried to get bama to file suit against the NCAA to restore them. He didn't care about the OTHER 16 wins they had to vacate under Shula, just his own.

Well Catcard, Why was their wins vacated? I guess using ineligible players is not cheating. The NCAA thinks that if the ineligible players didn't play in these games, the other team may have won.

It's all about the NCAA's arbitrary, capricious and selective enforcement. Keep in mind that, while UK was not accused of violating any specific NCAA rule, the Chair of the COI (the MEAC's Dennis Thomas) threatened to summon Kentucky before the Committee on Infractions if they didn't change things to the NCAA's satisfaction.

So far, various folks have discovered erroneous/non-compliant treatment of vacated wins by:

* Alabama football (Saban's bio/record)
* Florida Atlantic basketball (Mike Jarvis' bio/record)
* San Diego State (Steve Fisher's bio/record, plus celebrating "400th win" last season)
* Mountain West Conference (press release congratulating Fisher and repeating wrong coaching record)
* Western Kentucky basketball (media guide documents 1971 Final Four without documenting its vacation by NCAA)
* Florida A&M football (statistics, coaching record)
* Savannah State football (ditto)
* Morgan State basketball (Todd Bozeman's bio/record)

The last three are MEAC schools.

The NCAA will regret opening this can of worms, and I'm betting that every NCAA member school will be reviewing and sanitizing their websites and media guides next week…

This issue has nothing to do w/ cheating…Or about rattling Saban's or the ALA faithful's chain…Or win totals for that matter.
It's about the NCAA being petty & impartial over trivial BS…And it's about the NCAA singling out of a few big names…While ignoring the same issues at a multitude of other institutions. It's about selective enforcement & preferential treatment!!!

On a UK blog, it was pointed out that there are a # of NCAA programs w/ vacated wins that are being counted in their media guides/web sites…& in fact…1 outstanding example of this is Florida A&M…Who has been misrepresenting their "official" NCAA win totals (via media guide & web site) w/ vacated/"No contest" wins from 2000-2003.

How's FAM relevant to this discussion, you may ask???

Well, Dennis Thomas, is the head of the Committee on Infractions for the NCAA…And he's the Commissioner of the MEAC…FAM is a member of the MEAC. Which kinda makes the selective enforcement claim much harder to argue against …Especially when that's occurring in his own backyard & yet he did nothing about it!!!

Why would Saban want to get credit for a 5 win season? He'd probably agree with expunging that whole season.

So let me see if I have this straight, Richey. Based on your comment, I take it that you, a University of Alabama professor (of some sort), have chosen to occupy your work day by going on the defensive and dropping the F-bomb in the comment section of a sports website that is simply reporting a fact — not an opinion criticizing Saban, but a simple fact relating to Alabama's vacated wins. Wow.

By the way champ, for an "academic," your grammar really sucks (exhibit A: "breaking the NCAA daily"). Your logic isn't much better. Best of luck on your promising career in academia!
