Late this morning, CBSSports.com’s Brett McMurphy tweeted the following:
“Multiple Big East sources said they have been told by WVU officials that WVU rejected by ACC & SEC”
Now, we stated just an hour ago that we would be surprised if the SEC handed out a sure-fire yes or no with any haste. Why limit one’s options.
But if this report is true, it suggests the SEC has already decided upon a 14th school. Stay tuned.
(And if you’re an irate WVU fan right now, go back and read our posts regarding WVU’s business-related shortcomings and you’ll understand why — if this report is true — the Mountaineers were passed over. We tried to tell you.)
Now Missouri's Chancelor is working very hard to keep their conference intact. So has the SEC told WVU no and Missouri told the SEC no? Will the SEC be content with a 13 team conference?

Good thing for Arkansas and South Carolina they entered the SEC before the current tv market. Otherwise there's a good chance both of those schools could have been passed over as well. In a lot of ways I think WVU is a good fit for the SEC. But as it's been pointed out many times, today the big issue is tv markets. And overall WVU just doesn't have the clout that the SEC over all is looking for to get a new top deal in future tv contract negotiations. I have to agree with Mr SEC, if the SEC can't get anyone else they'll take WVU. Otherwise the SEC is looking for some other schools that will bring out more in a future tv contract.
and Ole Miss, Miss State and Vandy . if they hadn't been members for 70 years already, no way they'd get an invite. I know there are a majority of fanbases who would have no problem giving them the boot, but thats never gonna happen
Yeah, I would never be in favor of kicking other schools out of the SEC barring some sort of egregious offense. From a competitive standpoint we have probably all dreamed about dropping Vandy and adding an FSU or someone like that, but it's no way to do business. Today we are ganging up and kicking out Vandy and all of sudden by tomorrow they are kicking your favorite school out. We either hang together or we hang separately as the old saying goes.

You are absolutely dead-on on this one. As we've stated a number of times, Missouri is a better "business" get than either Arkansas or Carolina were. But TV dollars now drive the bus and that wasn't the case 20 years ago.
Timing is everything.

WVU wanted the football rep, and the SEC wanted the north east market. Let's be honest, the SEC is a fantastic football conference. But watch if WVU loses this weekend, it will be LSU lost.
WVU will never get respect even if they won the BCS National Championship. Being a WVU fan, I can back up this statement. Just as Jam mentioned, WVU has taken care of 8 out of 10 SEC opponents to date. Don't even start about teams like Vandy, Kentucky, MSU. What do you have in basketball that is so good SEC fans? Tennessee, UK? The Big East had 11 teams considered for the NCAA tournament last year. It's time you stop hating on the Mountaineers, because they have done nothing but dominate SEC opponents.
I would also like to say that I have nothing but respect for the Souteastern Conference, it's schools and tradition.....
Being a WVU fan I wouldn't be all that upset about not going to the SEC, its just losing out on any decent conference in general. Some of you guys are being unfair with your trash talk of the state and school. Is Kentucky or Vanderbilt's football program any better?? Not by a long shot....Nor is Ole Miss or Mississippi St. for the record. WVU's football program is right on the same level or at least close to that of Georgia, Arkansas, and South Carolina. Check the records ladies and gentlemen, WVU has won 8 of the last 10 games vs SEC opponents. Including the Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl....In ATALANTA! We are the Rodney Dangerfield of college football....No matter what, no respect!

For the record, we here at MrSEC.com have said that WVU would be an excellent on-field and cultural fit with the SEC. And your combined football/basketball programs are stronger than Pitt, Syracuse, UConn and Rutgers (who the ACC is chasing) and Missouri (who the SEC is chasing).
Best of luck. And never close the door on anything in expansion. We didn't think WVU would pass the test because of business-related issues, but there's still the possibility for a fallback move from the SEC. Doubtful, but possible in our view.

"Angry mob" is a very kind reference compared to how some of them acted on here. I don't mind "rabid" fans, but not the kind where you actually worry about hydrophobia.

The SEC would not have told WVU no without #14 or #16 lined up. You can think of it like this. The SEC is looking add to their team. You have already lined up one stud player (A&M). However you are needing 2-3 more player to fill the squad. You are working to get a couple more stud players (OU, OSU, Mizzou), however you have a good player, not great, waiting for your call. This player will always say yes because that player has no other options. Why would you tell that player no? Unless you already had your team lined up with everyone that you want?
I think it is possible that there are 2 other teams lined up, but only if one of them is FSU. Unless the Pac 12 has rejected OU, I don't see them heading to the SEC at this point. If FSU is not on board I think we are stopping at 14 for a while.

Hope it is OU, OSU, and Mizzou. Not likely though. OU seems to be talking out of both sides of it's mouth right now. They want parity in $$, and Stoops doesn't care whether they play UTx or not. Yet, they are only admitting to Pac talk. along with Texas and LHN. It would be hilarious if Texas announces a Pac move, then OU and OSU announce SEC.
Spending 15 years in DFW as an Arkansas grad and listening to the T-sippers trash gives you that kind of view. As a Vol stuck in Houston, I'm sure you're getting there too.
