Enjoyed the several analytical comments you've sent over the last couple hours. Although Baylor is a private institution, they have relied heavily on the Texas legislature over the decades. The state still has much influence over them. Their moves here may be keeping UT from getting into the Pac12. Where will they be with UT and A&M influence against them? FCS division? Who else is brave enough to take them unless they quickly cease and desist?

More good stuff on Baylor on Collegefootballtalk.com: since the SWC folded, they basically stopped playing TCU, Rice and SMU. Just flat out stopped playing them! And they have the GALL to put out this press release: "Absent from the discussion is any consideration of the welfare of the student-athletes, the best interests of the fans (who watch historic rivalries go by the wayside), the effect on the home states involved (which have much to lose in the shuffle), and the impact such hysteria can have on the very essence of the collegiate football experience." When TCU, Rice and SMU badly needed to keep the games against the other former SWC members to keep their own programs going, Baylor just up and abandoned them? And now they are pulling this rank hypocritical nonsense? Now of course, it is not Baylor's fault that the SWC died, and any one of those other schools would have gladly taken Baylor's place. But they had the chance to help those schools (you get 4 nonconference games a year people!) and didn't, and now they want to play this card? (And need I remind you that they are SUPPOSED to be a religious school. Just sayin' ...)

Sorry Bears. Keep this up, and you will lose the few friends that you still have. Go to the Big East (while the getting is good!) and put a smile on your face about it.

OK, this really makes Baylor's actions incomprehensible, as in incomprehensibly dumb, stupid, idiotic, short sighted, and part and parcel of the reason why they have been a nonfactor or worse for so long in athletics to begin with because of bad leadership.

Look: even if Baylor wins this round, make no mistake: Texas, Oklahoma and A&M will get away eventually! And "eventually" might be as soon as next year, if the Texas legislature finally decides that they are tired of all this nonsense, which is very likely to happen. I already read where that state's legislature has said that they won't force A&M to stay in the conference, and they also won't force Texas and A&M to keep playing each other. Last year, the Texas papers reported that if Texas Tech got into the Pac-10, the legislature and business community was going to commit hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade that school into a top flight research institution. (Oklahoma and Okie State want the Pac-12 for the same reason: academics). At any time, the legislature could decide that the benefit to Texas Tech - a state institution mind you - outweighs the harm to Baylor. Also, Rick Perry - an Aggie - may just tell the politicians to choose what is best for A&M over what is best for Baylor.

Now that is just hypothetical, but the point is that it will happen, and when it does, there is no guarantee that Baylor will be able to get into the Big East. The Big East is trying to get to 12 teams as quickly as possible because they are negotiating a TV contract. Once they get those 12 teams, they won't need Baylor anymore. Also, the Big East may be better for Baylor on the field anyway. They will no longer have to compete with powerhouses like Texas and Oklahoma, and also even with the little run they are on now, they are still looking up at A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Missouri (at minimum). But in the Big East, they are immediately a "middle of the pack" team, and would get to open up their recruiting. It would also REALLY help their basketball program, which is better and more stable than their football program right now. It would also help their academic reputation.

You would basically have Baylor, TCU, Kansas, Kansas State, Cincinnati, and Louisville making up the "Big East West." Or the "West Big East." Or whatever, it would be GOOD for Baylor! But now, the Big East can just invite Houston instead. Wouldn't that be funny if by 2013, A&M is in the SEC, Tech and the Longhorns are in the Pac-16, Houston and TCU are in the Big East (who would still take Kansas just for the basketball, and K-State too), and Baylor is in C-USA? If that happens, they would have no one to blame but themselves. Baylor needs to come to their senses and start looking out for themselves in this process just like everybody else. Lawsuits and politics can't protect them forever.

The problem is that it may not be 2012 versus 2013: it maybe 2012 versus never. It was very expedient for A&M to get out of the Big 12 while the Texas legislature was out of session. Once the Texas legislature get back in session, who knows what will happen.

I don't get why the SEC is so adamant about not getting sued. The SEC in this case is nothing like the ACC/Big East mess of a few years ago, where the ACC publicly declared their premeditated intentions to raid the Big East of its teams and then demand that the BCS revoke the Big East's AQ status. (Syracuse, one of the original teams in the deal, didn't even want to go, but when told by the ACC that the Big East was going to lose their BCS bid, they felt that they had no choice.)

But in this case, the Big 12 would be losing only one team that the Big 12 can easily afford to lose. (In fact, the argument can be made that replacing A&M with BYU makes the Big 12 even stronger!) And it was A&M who sought out the SEC. They did it first last year and again this year. I have read that there is this language where anyone who "helps" a Big 12 team leave can be sued, and that admitting a team into your conference constitutes "helping." So ... you can only leave the Big 12 if you go independent? (If that is the case, who can leave other than Texas?)

A&M should be able to separate their leaving for the SEC from what Texas and Oklahoma do. If they do that, wouldn't that free them and the SEC from any real legal liability? Oh yeah, and instead of suing A&M and the SEC, why doesn't Baylor, Iowa State and company sue to force the Big 12 to admit two more teams (or four or six more)? A&M is still technically in the Big 12, and would vote in to admit anyone that the pro-Big 12 schools want. These guys should go to Beebe and say "invite any 3 or 7 of Houston, BYU, TCU, UCF, SMU, Rice, Tulsa, Tulane, Southern Miss, Boise, Fresno (or whoever else) NOW and let's vote on it!"

The SEC's not the bad guy in this, and they shouldn't be treated like it.

I thought a 2013 entrance would have been easier in the beginning. It would give the league more time to prepare for the transition (and add more teams if necessary). I'm all for it.

And now that I've read the University of Texas's version of Baghdad Bob . . . I think its obvious we need to rise up, remove college regents from power and allow the people who have the best interest of college sports at heart make the decisions . . . the Athletic Directors and Conference Commissioners. They should set the national agenda. *rolleyes*

YES!!!

I fully support this delay... that way the SEC has more time to find a 14th member and doesn't have to try to concoct some bizarre schedule with the impossible task of scheduling 13 teams evenly

and the Big XII can continue their Jerry Springer like chair throwing lawsuit filing nonsense and get it out of their system

Big XII obviously has tons of issues to work out- and it now seems highly unlikely they will be resolved anytime soon
