Sure, Georgia was facing a tomato can in Coastal Carolina on Saturday. And sure the Dawgs are still just 1-2 overall. But Mark Richt’s team has shown improvement each week following its opening night loss to Top 5 Boise State.
For Richt, there are some positives to be found:
“The thing I like is, we’re a team that is getting better as we go. We do have a lot of room to grow yet. The last couple of performances, minus the huge mistakes, four or five plays that really got us (against South Carolina), I felt we were making a lot of progress. As you watch tape, it’s still pretty obvious we’ve got some youth and inexperience that still needs to improve.
Overall, I think we’re a team that is on the rise, but we’ll see. We’re going to play that first SEC game away from home and get a better feel for what kind of progress we have really made.”
That first road game is at Ole Miss on Saturday. Considering the hot-seat status of both coaches, some fans will no doubt view the game as some type of elimination game.
“Our coach couldn’t even beat that guy’s team… and that guy’s in decline.”
If Richt’s team really is making progress, it desperately needs to prove it Saturday in Oxford against Houston Nutt.
