there was a speculative article where the writer was trying to figure out the 13 game schedule, and in his model the Bama/Ole Miss game would get suspended for 1 season

but that was just a writer putting something together, he wasn't saying he had any information that would actually be how they do it

What's the difference between accolades and prestige? Either way, the ACC is not about to become a money generating powerhouse. They made a good move in stabilizing the conference and becoming stronger in basketball and academics, but that's about it.

With the addition of A&M alone the SEC is about to renegotiate its contract and will more than compensate for the addition of 'Cuse and Pitt to the ACC. If the Northeastern markets were all that awesome to begin with then the Big East would have had that money coming in a long time ago. The reality is that people in that part of the country just don't watch a lot of college football. There's more interest in college bball, but the money generated there is just not great when compared to football.

The ACC definitely made it harder for a team to leave, but $20 million is not that much for a successful program. That's only $4 million more than it was a few weeks ago before they voted on the new measure. I'm not saying an ACC team like FSU or VT is going to bolt, but the financial issue is not what will keep teams like that in the ACC.

(cont) But, the difference is only about $3 to $4 million or so a year. The fee to leave the ACC is $20 million. The SEC isn't going to pay it. The school will. That means that if VT or FSU leaves the SEC, it would take possibly 5 or 6 years just to break even from the money it cost them to leave the ACC. Add to that, now the ACC's TV money is set to increase significantly with the addition of two huge markets.
I am sorry, the boosters and the school are not going to cough up $20 million dollars and go through the legal battles and possibly even lawsuits to maybe climb one rung higher on the ladder of college football, and actually take a step (or three) down in basketball.
It will not happen. Forget about VT, FSU, Virginia, or any other ACC school.

I cannot fathom anybody from the ACC joining the SEC. It makes no sense.
Yes, there is more prestige in the SEC, but the ACC is getting a lot of acolades right now, and prestige alone is not worth the effort to change conferences. Prestige alone doesn't make money.
Ok, what about being in a more stabile conference? The ACC is just as stabile as the SEC is, and may even have a little more momentum in that area right now. Afterall, the ACC just added two BCS teams to the SEC's one.
What about money? Yes, there is more money in the SEC. Currently about $17 million or $18 million per team, per year to the ACC's $14 or so million. (cont)

I thought things were interesting in the press conference. I never heard anything about the presidents voting this past Friday on A&M again. THey keep speculation and talk very quiet. I love how they handle things. We all know the SEC will go to 14, but Slive wont just add someone. THat's what I like about him. He knows we can always add someone like WVU. He's going to try and get FSU or Virginia Tech to come first. I like what he's doing.

I'm with Saban,

I really dont care too much about the teams being added, I trust Slive wont get a bunch of duds for the sake of evening the numbers( at least I dont think he will)

But I have the same worry he does, add whoever you see fit SEC officials, but please dont destroy rivalries like Bama v Tennessee for the sake of a few more dollars

Make the league better by expanding if you think you can, but dont do it at the expense of what made this league so great in the first place

I think that is the way a lot of SEC fans feel about the whole thing
