I haven't taken the time to read all of the posts beforde this, so I apologize to the extent that it may be repetitious. But: this Baylor B.S. strikes me as being IDENTICAL to the complaint that moves such as A&M's, are all-about-the-money$$$. When, in fact, there can be no reason to object to the "Darwinistic" moves, to "stronger survivals," by teams that actually bring GOODS to the table. A&M does that. Baylor, by my recollection of their Hx, doesn't. So, I cannot help but view Baylor as some sort of "we-can't-do-it-ourselves, but we-like-that conference-money" blood sucker, like so/TOO MANY/ ride-free-as-long-as-you-can conceptuals that have grown to prominence since Johnson announced the Great American Society. And, wasn't he from somewhere near Baylor? I know it was Texas, but tried to forget the entire detail, other than that Kennedy thing! Have a good Night y 'all.

That is 100% correct: from your point of view. From the point of view of Baylor, who is poised to fall from the Big 12 to the Sun Belt, it is in their best interests to hold you to your agreement. I don't blame A&M for wanting to leave. But I also don't blame Baylor for trying to stop you.

Since you bring up business knowledge, anyone in business knows- No income, no business.

Income for this site, and other industries such as radio and television comes from advertising, NOT readers, listeners, or viewers. Yes, Nielson ratings determine rates. A friend, who owns 3 radio stations, got a call from a listener complaining about a conservative commentator. His response was for her to change stations. One less viewer of this site won't cost them a penny.

Good luck in your future irritating endeavors.

The hypocrisy of the Baptists and secularists at Baylor continues to mount. They were not supportive of other Texas schools when they joined with out of state schools in the Big 12/10, 9, 8...3, 2, 1, O. They joined with the separatists to kill SWC. They now blame A & M for attempting to do what they themselves actually did. A book could be written about this mess, but at work is a divine and universe principle: reciprocity. What goes around, comes around, what you sow, you reap, etc.

Yahoosports.com has an interview (under college football -link is on the left side) with Jeff Long, Athletic Director at Arkansas. Jeff says the Big 12 contacted him about coming to the Big 12. He obviously was not interested.

ShannyDeridan...

A public forum? This is a business. My business. You couldn't walk into a McDonald's and shout "your food sucks, I make my burgers like this" and not get tossed out.

We give you the comment boxes. We ask people not to curse and not to post links to other sites. And when people are ugly to us or ugly to others, we feel we have the right to either a) boot 'em from the comment boxes (rarely done) or b) call 'em out.

Again, we have no problem with our readers. If people disagree without being insulting, that's fine too. (Even though I've personally never commented under someone else's work on another site and would not dream of doing so.)

But folks shouldn't cry if we respond to them in the same manner in which they respond to us and to each other.

You're sadly trying to suggest that this is a public forum, that we work for you and that we should thank those who choose to be ugly... for actually being ugly. We simply believe that if people are ugly, they deserve to be told that they're being ugly.

Again, this is a website. If people like getting all their SEC info in one spot written from an objective perspective, they'll like it and they'll use it. If they don't, they can leave.

I just don't get the negativity some people show toward us and toward one another. I don't get up in the morning and feel the need to go to someone else's place of business and criticize them, their work, or their school. And if I did, I sure wouldn't call THEM thin-skinned or a Nazi when they told me to to hit the bricks.

From what I have read this morning, Baylor is the ring leader after all. (Looks like I owe John an apology!) Also, while the other schools have merely refused to waive their right to sue, it looks like Baylor is the only one who has actually gone so far as threatening a lawsuit. (Looks like I owe John another apology!)

Now for all we know, these schools may have just gotten together and played "rock, paper, scissors" to see which school has to stick its neck out with Baylor losing. Or, Baylor might have been the school in the best position to fight this due to their being in Texas. But yeah, Baylor is definitely the school out in front here.

A Nazi? We give you the comment box. I was just asking why you feel the need to tell me how to run the site? Do I or anyone else do that to you in your line of work?

People are critical and point out errors everyday and that's fine. But when they take shots at us we believe that WE as AMERICANS -- using your logic -- have the right to respond.

Plus, the first amendment doesn't mean you can walk into your neighbor's house and call his wife fat without getting your nose busted.

Also I think anyone who's taken the time to read your posts under every story the last few days, knows who it is that acts like a 4-year-old.

Finally, we answer every email we get around here and you'll see a "thanks for reading the site," under most of the comments. We appreciate our readers. Very, very much.

We just don't appreciate the ugly ones who rip us and rip each other. We feel the first amendment -- shrug -- and our ownership of the site gives us the right to respond accordingly. To the nice... and to the ugly.

you know- I guess you dont have much business knowlege... but your "readers' are your customers and its best not to treat them like garbage

If it weren't for us readers giving your website hits you would have to get a real job and not get to blog about sports all day for a living. You may have stayed up until 2:30 (cry me a river) but I get up at 4:30 every morning to get ready for my customers and i try to be polite to them for giving me their business, unlike you who seem to think you are doing us all a huge favor when its actually the other way around

there are 100 sites to get this same information from, and they probably appreciate people reading them instead of feel like their readers "owe" them something for putting up links. You already lost 1 customer today if not more by throwing a tantrum, if you want to stay in business you better learn to act like an adult

Question... who do you think you are to tell me how to feel about criticism of a free story I sat up til 2:30am working on? There's no venom in my words, that's just a calm, straight question. Who are you? Why do I answer to you?

-------------
I'm an American. I feel I have a right to tell you whatever I please as guaranteed under the first amendment to the constitution. I didn't break any of your rules with my post or even say anything negative

Jesus I was trying to be supportive of you and your site with that post but jesus christ now I'm done. If you want to run your website like a nazi where your opinion is always right end of story, then by all means kick me off on go ahead. But you treat people who disagree with you like garbage

You are King of the Kindergarteners, as your opinion holds so much more merit than the rest of our b/c you are a "Blogger" that knows how to link

Sorry you stayed up past your bedtime buddy, but I didn't ask you to do that. I'm done with this site and its no wonder there are only a handful of people who comment around here... its about to be a whole lot less

have a nice life loser, websites like these are a dime a dozen and i'll make sure everyone knows the guy who runs this one is a complete joke who acts like a 4 year old

ShannyDeridan...

Question... who do you think you are to tell me how to feel about criticism of a free story I sat up til 2:30am working on? There's no venom in my words, that's just a calm, straight question. Who are you? Why do I answer to you?

Have I come to your place of business and publicly criticized you, your work or your daily choices? Does anyone do that to you? If not, then you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

It's odd that people using anonymous names come to this site, toss out criticisms, get their feelings hurt if I respond... and then follow up by claiming that I am the thin-skinned one. As far as I can tell, this isn't ESPN. This is my site. I run it. I set the rules.

The comment boxes were put here in the (ridiculous) hope that people would have intelligent discussions of the topics we put forth. In many cases, that happens. But in far more cases -- and this is the case with every other site on the web, too -- the comment boxes just allow mainly anonymous people to make ugly comments about the site, about each other, about rival schools, etc.

What I want to be a "think tank" instead usually winds up being a kindergarten. I don't enjoy that. And I really don't like providing an avenue for people to be ugly to one another. Or to me.

But if I ever respond and try to drive out the unruly guy at the end of the bar, I'm heckled for that as well.

So I'm done reading these comment boxes. You guys can rip me, lie about our stories, misrepresent what we've written, insult one another or just rip rival schools -- which you yourself do 10 times under every Texas A&M post.

Be my guest. The comment boxes are yours. The endless negativity is bad for my health.

Beebee has been a joke for a while now- the real question is how did he keep his job after almost letting the Big XII fall apart last year?

I think he is part of the problem- no real program is going to join the Big XII with him in charge. and who would want to stick around that league knowing he is in the process of destroying it

They should have fired Beebe when they lost Nebraska and CU

john...

Just wanted to get this straight. I sit up til 2:30 in the morning finding 24 stories on expansion so you won't have to. This isn't a link farm like so many other sites, however. We read each of these stories, provide you with a summary of the stories, sometimes with a key line or quote, with the goal of letting you know whether you need/want to click the link or not.

Also, just below this story is a lengthy breakdown of conference movement over the last 60 years explaining a) that this has been going on for years and b) that the process has really accelerated since the Supreme Court's tv ruling in 1984.

But rather than coming here and not liking what we provide for free and just going away, you actually feel the need to CRITICIZE our choice of stories, the way we deliver them -- even though you're way off on that -- and you suggest we should be talking about an ESPN show on an SEC player from 30 years ago instead.

All in a comment box that we provided you with.

Just know this... someday, when I put this site to bed forever... it'll be folks like you who are the cause.

"Baylor is infamous within the great state of Texas for voting against ... the other "fellow" Texas Southwest Conference schools to be invited to the BIG XII."

So, the Big 12 was going to have 16 teams? Or was the Big 8 going to kick out Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas and Oklahoma State? Which is it? And when was that EVER on the table?

"Now, somehow, Baylor cries for unity from some of the same people they screwed over 20 years ago?"

So, it is Baylor's fault that Arkansas left, SMU got the death penalty, Houston received devastating NCAA sanctions, and the SWC went broke? Or is it Baylor's fault that the Big 8 only wanted to add 4 teams and not 8? Or is Baylor to be blamed for seeking membership in the Big 12? Or for not rejecting membership in the Big 12 because of the unfairness to SMU, TCU, Houston and Rice? Which is it?

"An entity cannot sue another entity if they cease to exist."

That is what Texas, Texas Tech, A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, and Colorado wanted to assert last year but never got the chance to. The loyalty agreement that Beebe had these schools sign - the one that everyone apparently wishes to pretend does not exist - was specifically designed to prevent that argument from ever being raised again.

"Had Beebe gone out and invited ... everyone would be talking about how awesome the Big XII is and how forward-thinking Beebe was ..."

Beebe didn't invite those schools because Texas didn't want them. They claimed that a 10 team league with no conference championship game and a full round robin schedule was better for financial, competitive and other reasons.

"The Big XII would be set to stand tall as the big conference of the southwestern US."

That was never going to happen because the league is filled with members who never wanted to be in the Big 12 in the first place, but were thrown together because of circumstance and politics. Texas and Colorado have long wanted to be in the Pac-10, and lately Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech (who was the last to sign the loyalty agreement last year because they were furious) have come to their side. A&M has long wanted the SEC. Missouri and Nebraska have long preferred the Big 10. They just blame each other - Texas - for wanting to go somewhere else when it is what they all want anyway. Even this year: A&M is claiming that they want to go to the SEC because of the Longhorn Network (when A&M tried to join the SEC in 1990) and now Oklahoma is claiming that they are leaving because A&M is leaving (when Oklahoma tried to join the Pac-10 last year) which allows Texas to claim that they are only going to the Pac-10 because the Big 12 is unviable (when they also tried to join the Pac-10 in the 1990s, and they also claimed that the Big 12 was dead last year because Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado were trying to leave). Oh yeah ... last year Oklahoma claimed that they were just following Texas, now Texas is claiming that they are following Oklahoma, who claims to be following A&M, who claims to be driven out by Texas ... ugh. It is like herding cats.

The Big 12 schools committed to keeping the conference together in July 2010....the Longhorn network and all of its particulars didn't start to come out until April 2011, and the full contract was not released until August 2011. These schools made this agreement BEFORE they had full knowledge of what exactly was going to be the extent of LHN. I won't get into a lesson on the LHN, because that's been done a million times already, but when people keep going back to this Big 12 "commitment " in July 2010, they need to realize that all the cards were NOT laid out on the table.

In 1996 when Big 12 was formed, politics in Texas pushed UT to take Baylor along. Baylor owes Texas.

Oklahoma made the statement that they would go to the Pac12 without Texas. Could this be a UT move in disguise (through Baylor) to pressure Oklahoma into staying in the Texas fold?

Bill Cosby had a routine years ago about a street football game. They had to pick this inferior player just to make up a team. In the huddle everyone but this guy was given routes to run . He asked, "What about me?" Bill Cosby said,"You go long!"

Baylor- YOU GO LONG!!!

"The reason they didn't complain when two of their member schools went to the PAC 12 and big 10, is because those two schools were not Texas, in-state schools."

Huh? Baylor squawked, yelled and complained plenty. They were the reason why the Pac-10 offered Colorado first: to preclude any possibility of the Texas legislature forcing them as a condition of getting A&M, Texas and Texas Tech. Perryman produced his "hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impact on Waco and the region" study last year too (although it was taken a lot more seriously then). Baylor didn't torpedo the Pac-16 deal last year, but they delayed what had been reported as a "signed, sealed and delivered" deal, and it was during the delay that A&M broke away to join the SEC. If Baylor hadn't started squawking when they did, A&M would be in the Pac-16 by now. which means that right now all these SEC fans wouldn't be bashing them for trying to keep A&M out of the SEC.

Look, I know that it is real popular to kick around Baylor right now, but let's not give them any more than they deserve. And as to why no lawsuits were threatened last year? 1. There was no loyalty agreement (meaning no legal basis). 2. There was no TV contract (no basis for economic damages). A&M and the other schools set themselves up for this by committing to the Big 12 and signing that $1.17 billion 13 year TV contract. That is the part that everyone is conveniently overlooking.

People need a bit of a history lesson to fully understand the hypocrisy and ultimate fear in this latest move.

First, the hypocrisy. Baylor is infamous within the great state of Texas for voting against TCU (and the other "fellow" Texas Southwest Conference schools) to be invited to the BIG XII. That is why you will not find many of their "bretheren" falling in their side of this field. Baylor told TCU to suck it when TCU essentially used the same exact argument. Now, somehow, Baylor cries for unity from some of the same people they screwed over 20 years ago?

Second, the real fear is that Oklahoma (and by default Oklahoma State) and potentially Missouri or Texas Tech will now leave. That would in effect make the Big XII a non-entity, which would make any legal claims irrelevant. An entity cannot sue another entity if they cease to exist.

Hindsight is 20/20 here, but history will almost certainly write a very critical story of Dan Beebe. He had so much opportunity to stabilize his conference and he did pretty much the only thing that anyone with any common sense (or sense of history) would know is not smart. Had Beebe gone out and invited TCU, Utah, Boise and BYU, everyone would be talking about how awesome the Big XII is and how forward-thinking Beebe was to go out and get schools that have proven they belong. The Big XII would be set to stand tall as the big conference of the southwestern US. Instead, their members are cowering in the corner, throwing out diatribes like drunken idiots on COPS.

Baylor is a typical texas school that thinks that college football revolves around teams from Texas. What are they going to do if Oklahoma bails on their conference. The reason they didn't complain when two of their member schools went to the PAC 12 and big 10, is because those two schools were not Texas, in-state schools. If Oklahoma leaves, what is left in the conference. The longhorns and the wee folks for the most part, although, lately, that is in question. Without the Oklahoma schools, they will not have a valid confernece.
