Every conference will consult their contracted TV networks for advice on which teams would provide the most value. I suspect that the Big East will consult with ESPN before they try to pick apart Conference USA or add military academies. And yes, if ESPN tells the Big East that a certain team will provide more value, then that (proposed new money from ESPN) too will drive some of their decisions. It's a little ridiculous to act like a cat has been let out of the bag, when we all know this is how it works. Maybe if you are in the 2nd grade, than a cat was let out of the bag. Much ado about nothing. DeFelippo should "pull a Spurrier" on the Boston Globe and in general have a statement prepared and checked by someone else before he speaks to the press again. Better yet get in your hole and stay there. There was really nothing to be gained by talking to the press in this instance except for an unnecessary display of hatred towards UCONN.

I agree. DeFelippo proved to be an out of touch fool who doesn't understand the sensitivities involved in conference realignment when it comes to the Big East. With that being said, I do believe his statements were probably taken out of context. The Boston Globe doesn't exactly seem to be a bastion of integrity. I think there was even recent reports from them that fabricated Clemson's interest in the SEC.

This guy, his team, the Big East, the new ACC, Maryland's uniforms, Duke Football, UNC and UVA fans that never attended either University, UNC and UVA grads, everyone but Clemson returning tickets becasue their fans don't travel, and Donna Shalala and "d'yoo" are the reasons I pray daily that the SEC will just make a public bid for VT.

Never believe it when someone comes back at a later time and says "oh wait, you misunderstood me, I actually meant the total opposite of what I said."

DeFilippo certainly got an earful from some officials and is just doing damage control. I absolutely cannot stand it when someone says he "misspoke." Politicians, athletes, or celebrities….anyone who says they "misspoke" is flat out lying to your face.

DeFilippo should apologize for that football team. See SEC, just because you bring a mediocre football team into a conference doesn't mean it will improve.
