Every team has crazy fans. I was in Columbus, OH when OSU beat Miami for the national title. The fans there set trash cans and cars on fire. I would much rather see students set couches on fire than cars. Before Tim Teebo played LSU he received death threats from LSU. Last year a Cleveland fan walked into a bar in Pittsburgh and a Steelers fan shot the guy. As far as WVU goes at least they have some national recognition. I travel a good bit and I never see Missouri fans. I see a lot more WVU fans. I live in Tampa and there are more WVU fans here than Miami fans. I would be willing to say they are the 4th most popular team in Tampa.

And what does AAU have to do with anything. There are only three AAU schools in the SEC. does this mean all the other schools should be kicked out?

The SEC is about high caliber football. Missouri is not. I say there is no rush to select number 14 so we should wait until the correct school is available.

Absolutely, leave Ark.-LSU where it is! The Ark.-LSU series has a long pre-SEC history plus a 20 year run of some of the most exciting, dramatic games in recent SEC history. Ark.-Mo. can become a great rivalry, but potential doesn't supersede reality. Ark.-LSU is a great rivalry game in a great place on the schedule. Leave it alone! Remember, the fewer disruptions the better.

Missouri is just as good of a program in basketball (men's anyway) as Tennessee.

And where do you get off with your assessment of Missouri football? Long run of bad years, but over the past 5-6 years, it has been:

consistently top 25 at the end of each year
At least 8 wins the past 5 years and 10-win seasons 3 of the last 5 years
In 2007, was #1 in BCS going into the Big XII Championship game, 1 win away from being in BCS NCG
All this in the 2nd toughest football conference in America

Listen, we are not Alabama, but we are not Vandy. We will probably not wind championships, but we will compete and we will beat Tennessee probably 1/2 the time Knoxville.

But thanks for trying.

I think it's basically done and everyone knows it. In his press conference Mr. Deaton said Missuri had sent their information to the SEC and requested the info they needed from the SEC. Also MU talked about setting up a Holiday tourney at the Sprint Center and having a football game at Arrowhead to appease KC.

But one thing I read said the universities who have home games against MU next year are considering suing them for leaving them having to replace them.

Howdy Bob,

I lived in Arkansas when they left the SWC and joined the SEC. When they made the move they were elated! I got the feeling that to say they were tired of the whole state of Texas and the SWC schools would be a gross understatement. As far as I could tell the gladness of making the move and loyalty to the SEC only grew with time. It seemed like all of the Razorback fans I knew were telling me that A&M should make the move too. They're right, and I'm glad we are!

I could only laugh when I read reports of Dan Bebe calling Arkansas to talk with them about joining the Big XII. I'm at a loss to think of a comparative example to illustrate how ridiculous that was.

I totally agree that July can not come soon enough for me either!

Gig'Em!

Is it possible that by drawing this out Missouri is strengthening the SEC's near-term position?

If the Big 12 is really waiting on Missouri before expanding further then how does it help the SEC for Missouri to apply within the next week or so?

By waiting till the last possible moment before applying and being accepted Mizzou could either force the Big 12 to pull the trigger on WVU, Louisville, BYU, or whoever else further weakening the Big 12"s already precarious legal position. And should the Big 12 act later rather than sooner it would effectively postpone said Big East/Independent programs from joining the Big 12 next year they would have to wait till 2013 (yes I realize Big East bylaws require any exiting school to wait 27 months, but without said schools there is no Big East as a football conference.).

Such a move would give the SEC an extra year to evaluate/decide whether 14 teams is the stopping point or if they should indeed proceed directly to 16 after 2012. This leaves WVU in a similar position to TCU this year. They were committed to join one conference but the delay provided the opening for another conference to swoop in.

Don't worry... it won't be long until A&M and UT are paired together in the Cotton Bowl and A&M will have it's chance to prove to UT that it's moving up. Arkansas did that very thing in the 2000 Cotton Bowl and I'm sure that Cotton representatives can't wait to pair A&M against UT together.

I'm an Arkansas fan and would hate to see that game move from Black Friday. It's been a great series right where it is. Rumors are that it would be moved to an early season game, which wouldn't bode well for Arkansas at all, imo. A Missouri and Arkansas series has great potential, but they've only played a few times in the past and it'll take a while to build anything enticing. In contrast, the LSU and Arkansas series has the smallest margin of victory of any series in the SEC over the past 15 years and it's usually one of the most exciting games each year.

Thats funny.

Am I correct in remembering Texas wants the Big 12 to stay at 10 schools to avoid a conference championship game? They want the easiest path to the BCS title game?

Are you referring to a female caller who I believe was named Sherrie or something like that. If so I heard her today on 610 with Carrington and Danny Parkins. It was a beautiful thing even hearing it a 2nd time when they replayed it. Have heard her before and if she was on the Jim Rome show she would be "RACKED" everytime. Awesome, totally awesome. She should have an arena named after her. Paige...err..Sherri Arena.

To all those who think Texas A&M really expected UT to continue playing our annual contest - Nope, we really did not, but we offered. Knowing them like e do, we knew how vindictive and petty they would be. Looks like Baylor and TTU are falling in line with their sugar daddy.

TCU, SMU, U of H, and several other D-1 schools in Texas will still play an SEC TAMU, so no real loss on our end. Mizzou, you can expect the same from Kansas, but new rivalries form. And for the record, Arkansas is in no way unhappy they left the old SWC. So just give up that argument.

I was in Philly yesterday and had to keep from laughing at a UT alum. He was telling me that we were going to have to up our game to play there. His next comment was laughable. "Even UT would have problems in the SEC, so I would not want them to go there". UT can spin this any way they want, but they need to man up, admit they made a mistake and move on.

Also, take a look at the Bleacher Report, Prez Lofton finally opened the lid on Pandora's Box and revealed just how underhanded UT has been over the whole issue for the past 2 years. It makes a great read!

July cannot come soon enough for me.

I am surprised at OU and OSU, but their decisions are up to them.

What a dumb post. The Big 12 will not be around in the long run. Texas has been looking for their own deal for some time and OU was begging to get in the Pac 12. If the Big 12 continues, it will be ISU, KSU, KU, Baylor, and some mish-mash of former CUSA and Big East teams.

Hell, even maybe Oklahoma. I know there's a lot of Sooners up here and they travel well...although that would make our schedule ridonkulous, it would be a great atmosphere reminiscent of the 08 B12 Champ game. Either way, if the beakers are going to go pout in the corner, screw them once and for all, we got options. M-I-Z......S-E-C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The curators meeting was held in KC. With all the whining coming from KC about losing revenue & the Big 12 bb tourney, I don't think Deaton & MU wanted to announce the SEC move in KC. Would of looked like they were rubbing it in and be a distraction from the Okie State game tomorrow. Let em get back to Columbia and announce next week. MU plays A&M on the 29th. Announce before that game and have a SEC preview in the Big 12. That would be awesome !!

Yes, the big 12 wins... a non-AAU, couch-burning, no tv set-havin' school that just happens to look good when playing big east competition this year. WVU has an excellent basketball program, and Huggins will keep that going as long as he's there, but their football program will need to step it up a notch in a real conference like the big 12. They are jumping from the 6th/7th best football conference to this year's 1a and most year's #2 ranked conference.

Well Misery will be gone next week. But hey SEC, Deaton gave you one last weekend to come to your senses and realize that Midwestern Mizery will only water down SEC football and add another tiger to the cage.

Bring on the Southeastern Mountaineers to the Big 12 - a ranked team with a mascot that wears a coonskin hat and packs heat.

Big 12 wins. SEC loses on this deal.

Just for the record Racing Hokie, the ACC didn't want VTech. If you'll recall UVA had to be forced (by the Governor) to force the rest of the ACC to take you guys.

Coincidentally, you guys have 0 national championships in any sport ever and if VT was in the SEC its stadium seating capacity would rank 12th (behind Mizzou and TAMU too) - only in front of Vandy and Miss. St. You guys have had a nice 20 year run. When Beamer's gone you'll revert to form.

Guys, it is done. Mizzou is gone. It will be announced in Columbia, MO, but they wanted to make the public concessions at the Kansas City Board meeting to let KC know that Mizzou will take of them.

I'm looking forward to focusing on our game this week against Okie Light and then an SEC game against A&M next week on the Big 12's dime. That will get some GREAT media attention I'm sure, hehe.

But what's funny to me, given your handle, is that VT begged and pleaded for 50 years to join the ACC and now, with the league's additions of Syracuse and Pitt to go with BC and Miami, VT basically finds itself right back in the Big East circa 2004! All you need now is for the ACC to go to 16 with WVU and Rutgers and you've put the whole (subpar) band back together!

Your main concern should be that, when the ACC redoes the divisions, Tobacco Road will be reunited in a "Real ACC" division made up of UVa, NC, Duke, NCSU, Wake, Maryland and GT and the rest of you will be dumped into a "Big East refugees / SEC wannabees" division consisting of VT, Syracuse, Pitt, scUM, BC, Clemson and fsu. Congratulations, you're right back where you started! But, hey, that's still a lot better than the Metro conference, the Atlantic 10 or being a "football only" Big East member so I guess you're still a little ahead of the game!

Someone asked for the A&M timeline. Here's most of it. Some things might be a day off, if I misread an article. (Tuesday's paper with Monday's news)

August 15. A&M President authorized by Board of Regents to seek new conference affiliation. <a href="http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/aggies/entries/2011/08/15/" rel="nofollow">http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen...</a>

August 31. A&M announces that they want to leave the Big 12 in for the SEC in 2012. <a href="http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-college-football-notes-20110901,0,5013066.story" rel="nofollow">http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-college-footb...</a>

September 2. Don Beebe letter agrees that A&M will leave Big 12. <a href="http://images.radcity.net/6960/4850286.pdf" rel="nofollow">http://images.radcity.net/6960/4850286.pdf</a>

September 8. SEC accepts A&M provided that there is no lawsuit. <a href="http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6939017/texas-aggies-accepted-sec-legal-threat-delays-move" rel="nofollow">http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6939...</a>

September 20--Pac-12 rejects expansion for now, removing the threat that the Big 12 would disintegrate. <a href="http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6998751/pac-12-conference-decides-expand-further" rel="nofollow">http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6998...</a>

September 25--SEC officially and unconditionally accepts A&M. I can't find a date for Baylor withdrawing the lawsuit threat. <a href="http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7019493/texas-aggies-officially-get-accepted-sec" rel="nofollow">http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/70...</a>

If KU refuses to play Mizzou in football anymore, talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Hard to believe they would actually deprive the local economy of a needed infusion of cash just out of some kind of bitter resentment. Can see why MU fans are eager to exit stage left.

Actually the MU curators didn't give the Mr. Deaton the authority to explore their options until about Oct. 4th..

Prior to that the supposed offer in the SEC was denied by both sides and it was thought to only be an offer if OU,OSU,TT and UT left for the Pac 12. The SEC was reportedly worried about being sued if they took MU and Texas A&M and felt if those four teams had left the Big 12 would basically be dead and no way they could be sued by Baylor.

John: What's the upside to this again for the SEC? It seems like Missouri is mediocre at basketball, worse at football, and is just another mouth to feed. Bigger markets, you say?
SEC (to network): "We now have Missouri and all the eyeballs that come with it. Give us more millions."
Networks: "None of those eyeballs watch Missouri. They watch the Cardinals, Royals, Chiefs and Rams. You have added the Columbia, Missouri market, which has roughly the same value as the Columbia, Tennessee market."
SEC: "Um, yeah, BUT IT'S POTENTIAL EYEBALLS!!! WE NEED MORE MONEY!!!"
