Missouri Withdrawal Happening Today

Multiple sources are claiming that Missouri will withdraw from the Big 12 today.  It is also being reported that the Big 12 is working out a release agreement with MU brass that would allow the Tigers to jet by 2012.

Also telling is the Big 12′s press release regarding the addition of West Virginia.  The league announced a 10-school roster for 2012 with WVU in and Mizzou out.

Our sources told us last week that the deal would be done this week with Missouri entering the SEC in 2012 as a member of the SEC East.  Through all the ups and downs of the past seven days, it seems that that will finally come to fruition today.

So what happened to speed things up?  Have the ACC, Big East, Big 12 and SEC bosses gotten together and worked out an agreement that fits all?

Or is West Virginia simply telling the Big East to talk to the hand, they’re gone despite all of John Marinatto’s 2014 talk?

Is it possible that last night’s accidental web posting by the SEC actually helped to speed things up a bit?

Or was an agreement worked out last evening… which led to the error on the web in the first place?

We’ll find out over the next few hours and days, but for now it appears our long national nightmare is over.  (Tip of the hat to Richard Nixon.)

Missouri and Texas A&M are the SEC’s newest members and an official announcement should come soon.

I am soooooo escited for Missouri to be in the SEC!!! Please make this stop. The &*^%$(*&^%$* big xii needs to stop with the legal roadblocks and let this abortion end. Missouri President Brady Deaton cancelled or delayed his trip to India. That sounds to me like this will not end today and could drag on for a couple more day. Ugggh! Make it stop!

I think this has lost a lot of its shock value since the Big 12 is not even listing them.

just glad it is over only the big east to go than back to football.

well, what a shocker. Another day, another rumor, another report from John, and Missouri is still in the Big 12. Even the Big 12 wants them gone. lol. ON the big 12 site, they're not even listed as a 2012 member. So I guess we will know something between now and July 1, 2012. lol. Or I sure hope we know for the sake of Missouri.

I am tired of all this foolishness too..................!!

We're all looking for a formal announcement on Monday. But who knows?

Will this be announced before deaton goes on vacation

To be fair, it is not a vacation. He's the keynote speaker at a major international academic conference that has been scheduled for months. We all tend to forget that these people have a day job and athletics in general and athletic conference realignment negotations isn't it.

That said, they have to announce this before he goes, right? This cannot drag on for another 10 days. I continue to wonder whether as some have said on here that the B12 is continuing to say that if WVU cannot get out of the BE for 2012 we'll be knocking on your door, Mizzou. I think Mizzou needs to just say fine, then come. We'll be in the SEC. Not our problem - you made it clear when you excluded us from the WVU announcement that our services were no longer needed.

FL Gator welcoming the Aggies and Mizzou to the SEC family!!! This is the SEC and you will have big time rivalries going in nothing flat (2-3 years at most)... Safety and stability in the countries premiere conference, where you will be treated as an equal partner (NO Bevo the bully) are an added plus; and you won't have to travel to hell holes like Lubbock, and Ames, etc again... Welcome to the SEC!!!

SEC fans, we look forward to welcoming y'all to Columbia, Missouri, one of the best college towns in America. And WE look forward to visiting your campuses, too. Been to a few of them, having grown up in Tenn and being the son of Vandy and UT alums. Graduated from HS in TN, and most of my classmates are UT fans. We have our work cut out for us, and we have to retool our roster to compete in the defensive-minded SEC. But it is a REAL pleasure to be on the verge of entering the best college football conference in America! And it's SO great to be free of the Texass-run B12!

ZOU fan down in Gator country. Totally stoked. Can't wait to make it up to the swamp for some football and bball.

SEC fans get used to the newest chant: M-I-Z!!!! Z-O-U!!!!!!! Thrilled and honored to be in the SEC.

The B12 & WVU make an announcement. What's the hold up.

Mizzou will always take its sweet ass time on everything

The last I heard was a story on this site about the Big 12 drafting a release for Missouri. But things may have changed this is the Big 12 you know. They were saying that WVU will be joining on July 1st of 2012 and the Big East says wait just a minute they are stuck here in the Big East for 27 months. Maybe that slowed down the release from the Big 12 and their back to threatening to sue Missouri if they leave before 2013.

Anybody wanna go in with me on a huge billboard at the Missouri / Kansas border that states: "Welcome to SEC Country"?

Howdy Mizzou2SEC,

You might be able to buy or rent a used one from an Aggie that says "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's conference deal."

Gig'Em!

The puzzle pieces seem to be falling in place. Now Mizzou better get busy finishing recruiting and hope the players they target are ready for the big time. Best wihes Mizzou.

Hoorah Mizzourah!! Is this the day? I certainly hope so.

What are the all-time records of Texas A&M and Missouri vs. SEC teams? How many SEC teams have never played a football game against one of these new members?

Can't speak for it all but I know Mizzou has a pretty respectable record against current SEC school although they're 0-1 against Georgia. What I found interesting is that despite sharing a border, they've never had a game against Tennessee.

I could not believe that Mizzou and UT have never played in football or men's basketball.

Mizzou is 20-8-1 all time against SEC schools, keep in mind a lot of those are old games.

4-1 in Pinkel era, last was the Cotton Bowl over Arkansas

Next season CANNOT GET HERE FAST ENOUGH!!! Go Mizzou!!! Go SEC!!!

I think they should announce it at the lynard skynard concert tonight at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Mike Slive should come out with Truman the Tiger, Gary Pinkel, and athletes from all sports during the song, "Sweet Home Alabama". lol. Great to hear that this mess is finally behind us.

Would be quite the spectacle although my preference is "Georgia on my mind."

IMO, the only thing better would be a medley of all 14 SEC fight songs while the audience came forward to throw their B12 paraphernalia on a big fire with a longhorn steer roasting over it.

mmmm......bevolicious.

I like your thinking. Go MIZZOU!

No, Slive has the press over to his porch, then finishes his drink and says, folks let me tell you about my toughts

Congratulations Tigers! Welcome to the whole famn damily! It's going to be fun.

Great...Great Day!!! Now where can i buy a SEC conference flag???

MIZ-SEC

I am very GLAd that all of this has been settled FINALLY.......
I do HOPE that all A&M and Mizzou fans will ENJOY being a part of the SEC......
Much FUN and EXCITEMENT......

WAR EAGLE !!!!!

MU system grad and AU Dad - War Eagle and Mizzourah!

Great, great day for Mizzou fans and this Missourian who grew up in Tennessee.

Look at the B12 announcement on WVU. http://www.big12sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LA...

Notice MU is absent in the list of teams expected to play in 2012/13.

MU to SEC!!!

kirk...

That's the second paragraph of the above story.

Thanks for reading,
John

As a Mizzou alum (originally from Bama, with lots of family still down there), I am absolutely elated and flattered that we're joining the best college football conference in the country.

MIZ....SEC!

FINALLY!!! WE HAVE OUR FREEDOM!!!

Historic day for Mizzou and its fans. As A&M's Loftin put it, this is not a 1 year or even 5 year decision - this is a 100 year decision, and we can't be more exited to be a part of the SEC family for the next century and beyond.

Now on to more important questions...who will be #15 and #16? Adding one school in the state of NC and one school in the state of VA would basically round things out geographically, giving the SEC a presence in every state in the southeast quadrant of the country. Assuming UNC and UVA are not possible, what are the chances of bringing in NC State and VaTech?

I think the SEC is going to take a breather before broaching that subject. Some school presidents aren't even for going to 16 at all.

My prediction is that once the Big East situation gets settled out, the realignment ferris wheel stops for the next 5-10 years. Big Ten is set, the SEC has the footprint it needs to push forward on the SEC Network, the PAC will wait out Texas (and its tag alongs), and the Big 12 is going to sign over media rights for at least the next six years.

I would get East Carolina and Houston. Backups would be Southern Miss and UAB.

Sorry but I think you misread his comment. It says SEC teams #15 and #16, not #150 or #160.

I'd vote for Virginia Tech and North Carolina State
