There were some allegations of a circus-like nature surrounding Nutt in his last couple years at ARK, but I will not go there because I have a point to make about his coaching.
Nutt's best team featured McFadden, Felix Jones, and Peyton Hillis at running back. That's all-time historically good. Yet this team lost 2 or 3 games at the end of the season.
Why? Because Nutt brought in Gus Malzhan from high school, and a nationally recruited HS QB and wide receiver, both from ARK, and then chopped off Malzhan at the knees when he styarted getting some of the spotlight. When Nutt's mediocre QB was injured, Malzhan's passing QB went undefeated in SEC games, but Nutt replaced him when the injured QB returned. From there on it was all running game. Fine, except a little bit of a passing game would have meant winning every game. I swear, in one of ARK's big games, it was the first time in modern football I ever saw a running back (McFadden) throw for more yards than the QB! And McFadden only threw two passes!
The hotshot HS ARK QB and WR ended up at USC , and Malzhan is now OC on Auburn's national championship team.
The sports media , from ESPN on down , seems to give Nutt a free pass on this, and everyone else he does. Maybe they are afraid to attack a "Baptist minister" in the South.
