MU Board Chairman: No SEC Talk “Until The Appropriate Time”

It doesn’t appear there will be any official word today regarding Missouri’s possible plans to leave the Big 12 for the SEC. Warren Erdman — the chairman of MU’s board of curators — told The Kansas City Star this afternoon that he would not talk about any sort of timeline for a conference realignment decision “until the appropriate time.”

Yesterday, Erdman suggested that it might be Friday before he says anything on the subject… and that’s if he has something to say in the first place.

MU chancellor Brady Deaton was asked about Erdman’s comment that nothing will be said before tomorrow and he responded, “That would be consistent.”

Unless someone on the board springs a verbal leak later today or tonight, it looks like we’ll be waiting for official word tomorrow.

I agree. I live in Charlotte and would look foward to driving to Columbia for a South Carolina/West Virginia game. South Carolina/Missouri does not interest me.

Pudge, it Mizzou goes to the SEC, WVU will get an invite to the B12. WVU will win no matter what.

An invite to the Big 12 is a win? Sorry but as a long time MU fan I can't agree with that. There are very definite reasons Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M and Missouri wanted out and those reason are still in the room and nothing has changed.

If Missouri does jump to the SEC and WVU gets an invite to the Big 12 I do wish them luck. They don't deserve the dysfunctional Big 12 and would probably be better off trying to stay in the Big East and talking Louisville and others into staying. Maybe in a few years the SEC goes to 16 teams and wants them and they're locked into a conference where they have given up their TV rights for 6 years to it.

Well, all I can say is better late than never. Mike Slive & the SEC have historically been pretty tight-lipped regarding expansion. As pointed out on this site several times, Mizzou has had a problem keeping things under their hat so-to-speak and might need to learn how to control the message they are sending by, well, controlling the message.

Good to see Mizzou got the hint.

We can certainly wait a little while longer for the official announcements.

As much as I don't like certain Big-12 rivalries being messed with (KU vs. MU), a 13 team SEC is not a good plan and I would more than hate our rivalries to be interrupted.

According to Mike Dearmond, the Curators weren't going to make a public comment until Friday. He tweeted that last night.

I think we know what they want to do but I've read MU has to apparently deal with some KC boosters who are threatening to withhold their donations if MU leaves the Big12. KC is concerned about the loss of the big 12 tourney and the Rivalry between KU and MU which dates back to a hatred of the civil war days. The Jayhawkers raided Missouri towns for the union and Quantrill's raiders fought against them over in Kansas and It was a bloody time in the history of this area. Jesse and Frank James were part of Quantrill's raiders and it's said that Jesse and his gang were basically the same bushwhackers refusing to give up the fight against the unionists.

To this day the KC area of Missouri and Kansas still don't have much love for each other. I was working as a bouncer in a bar several years back on the Missouri side and noticed one night in the bathroom someone had written on the wall. Kansas: It ain't the end of the world but you sure can see the end from there.
