Spurrier Compliments Bama At Expense Of McCarron

Consider it a case of Steve Spurrier being Steve Spurrier.  Asked yesterday about the strength of Alabama and LSU, the Ol’ Ball Coach attempted to compliment the Crimson Tide.  It just so happens he slighted their quarterback in the process:

“Alabama and LSU are definitely the two best teams in the SEC, at least right now.  Fortunately, we don’t play either one of them.  Anyone know who the Alabama starting quarterback is?  I don’t. … That just shows you that on a powerful team, the quarterback is not the key player at all.”

For the record, AJ McCarron ranks fourth in the SEC in passer rating.  He’s completed 67% of his passes for 1,380 yards with 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Carolina’s quarterbacks under Spurrier’s tutelage have completed 57% of their passes for 1,403 yards with 10 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
