Regarding other schools in the Big 12 ripping Missouri...
No, it has typically been Kansas alums doing the ripping. Living in Kansas City, it has amazed me to see the venom - like MO is the girfriend in the relationship doing the dumping. I guess the other schools feel dumped, particularly KS (who, of course, like a rejected beau won't admit it).

Kansas City is particularly interesting. I can understand the perceived loss in terms of revenue, tradition, events in KC, etc. But local talk radio - one host, in particular - have been over the top with their anger and bitterness. In actuality, it reminds me a lot of the bitterness those same radio hosts hold toward St. Louis (and the Cardinals). Makes me think that a lot of what is driving the ripping is actually jealousy and inferiority. I've always said this city has an inferiority complex towards St. Louis (and lifelong Kansas Citians have agreed with that statement). I suppose KS has always had an inferiority complex towards MIzzou.

What are you gonna' do?

I am a FSU season ticket holder and booster. My first preference would be for FSU to become the 14th SEC member. I think that we are a better fit for the conference than Missouri.

If we stay in the ACC which appears to be the case, I am disappointed that the ACC did not extend a bid to West Virginia. It is tough to tell a program that has been to several BCS games and a Final 4 in recent years that they aren't wanted when the ACC has underachieved on the football field.

I live in B12 country and the only people I've heard 'ripping' Mizzou are KU fans. The rest of the conference doesn't care. They feel like it's best for them to leave. Given the incidents of the past 2 years, I don't think anybody can blame them.

The only concern from a conference perspective is trying to bridge the gap between when they leave and when their replacement can join.

Oklahoma State fans were chanting "Go Big 12" at the end of the Mizzou game last week. I thought this was strange since they were trying to leave the conference a few weeks ago and now they are big supporters.

Not surprising. Everybody knows that conference realignment is far more important to our national stability than job creation and fixing the economy.

When you don't have a clue, direct the focus somewhere else.

Agree. Three are multiple levels to look at this. From a purely football perspective, it's a stronger combo. WVU and TCU have both been to multiple BCS bowl games (and collected BCS bowl checks). They have perennial top 20 teams for the last 5-10 years. A&M has largely underachieved (given their resources and fertile recruiting ground) until the last year or two. Missouri has been better, but not as successful as either of those schools.

From a bigger picture of endowment and academics (that university presidents care about) and TV markets (that conference commissioners care about), A&M and MU are a much stronger package.

There's a really good article in today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It's an interview with Texas A&M president R. I know we aren't allowed to post links here so you can find it at stltoday.com then take the sports link then the mizzou link.

Yep gotta love how those Laurie's and Kroenke's have once again influenced the direction of Missouri Athletics. I remember back when Norm Stewart retired the rumors were that he got forced out because the University wanted some big money donations with strings attached from the Laurie's and Kroenke's but Bill Laurie still held a grudge against Stewart because Norm didn't give him a scholarship in basketball way back in the day.

I agree JMoney. A game at Arrowhead would be a great way to renew the third oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi River. NU/MU have played each other 104 times dating all the way back to 1892.

It is tough to get in, but I believe that just strengthens our case, and thanks for the compliment Andthensome. If your daughter does choose Mizzou, I would highly recommend looking into a FIG (Freshman Interest Groups), they are extremely beneficial, especially for Journalism majors.

Not entirely true. The contract with Illinois was complete.
Evan, Missouri and Texas A&M are both AAU schools. The Big Ten was so proud to pick up Nebraska, because it was an AAU school.
Opps, Nebraska lost it's AAU status right after it joined the B1G. Do you think there is anyway that West Virginia is an AAU school? I can't comment on TCU as I do not know. How do you think the TV markets compare to those two groups?

Okay, will someone explain to me the genius of the Big Ten's new logo. B 1 G?

This thing is out of control. The schools and networks are in the process of killing the goose that is laying the golden eggs. If they dont watch out, congress is going to get involved and really screw this thing up. Can you imagine the conference commissioners, TV network executives, and BCS honchos having to testify before congress to tell them what is going on and where this thing is headed. Not that anybody would really tell the whole truth. More people are caring about where their schools are going to end up more than the actual games. The daily expansion posts to the blog seemingly have the most comments by far than the other posts that involve actual games.

Since the SEC seems set with their recent pick ups, West Virginia deserved an invite to the ACC, not the Big 12. I know the Big East is a sinking ship, but the Big 12 conference is on life support, contrary to what the schools will have everyone believe. once texas learns how to follow ND's lead with going out on their own, and gives their network a few years to get off and running (like 6), they will leave every other school high and dry. tu only cares about themselves. They have no conference loyalty, only business motives. I can see more inhouse fighting, as the real cause for this Louisville vs. West Virginia news today; while I am biased, it is feasible to assume texas has a hand in it.

Yes, the basketball arena is named after Bud. He donated several million towards its construction. He had two daughters and no sons. The Kronke family is one of the daughters.

Sam had 4 kids, 3 boys and a girl. One of the sons was killed in an accident in Wyoming a few years ago. Robson is chairman of Wal-Mart, and Jim is chairman of Arvest bank, a Walton bank. Alice handles the philanthropy, but to my knowledge is not involved with the everyday operations. NW Arkansas also has the Tyson family which has given several million to the Agriculture school. JB Hunt has given to the business school, allowing the Supply Chain Managemant and Logistics program to be ranked 11th in the nation. I'm sure that's more than you ever wanted to know about the Waltons and NW Ark, but there it is.

I'm always interested in what's going on in the SEC schools, and wish there was a site for academics, etc. like this one is to sports.

The Big 12 had said that it had its new 10-team lineup for 2012... including Missouri and TCU. Now Missouri is leaving. So West Virginia -- as of yesterday -- was expected to come in and fill the 10th slot opened by Missouri.

You're arguing things that aren't even mentioned in the story. You take everything as an attack, even when it's stated clearly that it's not an attack.

But as I've said 50 times today, best of luck to the Mountaineers.

Mountaineer...

No one was insulting your school here.

And if you read this site, you know it's the only one that's been saying WVU could -- if still available -- find its way into the league down the road.

AllTideUp...

I understand that, but I really don't think you're going to see senators start pulling power plays for conference affiliation across state lines. I could see McConnell getting involved to make U of L and UK play each other... or to twist UK's arm to help U of L get in the SEC (just made up examples, by the way). But I don't see him calling senators in Oklahoma and Texas and Kansas and Iowa to say, "Alright, here's what we're gonna do."

A bit too conspiratorial for my blood. The story seems to be that he called OU's president -- an old friend -- to try and kickstart talk about Louisville. For weeks, Louisville has gotten more Big 12 talk than WVU. For some reason WVU passed Louisville this week. Makes me wonder if there's not yet another rift between the current Big 12 schools regarding who to add.

We'll see.

As always, thanks for reading,

Sam was a Missouri alumn, but I think it is Sam's brother Bud's daughters who live in Missouri. Alice is Sams daughter, and the last I heard, she divides her time between NW Ark and DFW. Two of Sam's sons, Robson and Jim, are Arkansas alumn.

Their foundation gave $50 million to the business school, and with wise use, the Sam Walton College of business is in the top 25 undergraduate business schools and the top 50 graduate business schools in the nation. Source is Wikipedia referencing US News & WR.

Hope the rumor is true about them donating to Missouri though. Sam's family donations, as well as Bud's personal, have not had any strings attached. A Missou friend says the Kronke's donations have had.

OK Why the need for putting down Missouri?. As much as anything else WVU is a great university and I respect them but people look at the Big East as weak and figure that if MU was in the Big East they would have had more success as well.

As it is MU has had 5 1st round draft picks in the last 3 years and bad teams don't do that. 3 out the last 4 years MU has finished the season ranked in the top 20. They have a top 25 recruiting class coming in for 2012 yet people talk about us like were the plague. They were the N0. 1 team in the nation and a heartbeat away from the NC game in 2007 but they choked against Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game. They finished the season ranked 5th and lost the chance for a BCS game when another schools A.D that lost to MU and finished lower in the polls lobbied the Orange Bowl committee which is against conference rules. So MU settled for the Cotton Bowl against Arkansas.

Yeah Missouri between 1970 after Dan Devine left and 2001 when Gary Pinkel was hired had about 30 years of bad football, but right now MU isn't a bad football team.

You keep saying, "No man at All!!!!!". Why wouldn't I think you were a woman?

To quote one of your earlier attempts at coherency, "You still haven't answered my question". Never mind that one, let's try a new one.

Do you remember all those years you were stuck in the second grade?

Spot On AllTideUp.

Nothing personal against the Mountaineers but as you said earlier it is what it is.

SEC PTB are looking for something that West Virginia can't provide.

No fault for either party from where I sit.

I'm from the Big 10. I have to admit that the SEC Presidents/Slive? are geniuses. Within 2-3 months they added 2 AAU schools and 31 million people. The SEC states currently have a population of 52 million and 2 AAU schools. When Texas A&M and Missouri come aboard they will have a population of 83 million people and 4 AAU schools, which mean research $$. I believe that is more than any other conference. That's all that the TV execs will look at. This is a huge score.

I would not even say that the SEC presidents don't want WVU. The SEC presidents prefer another school to WVU. Based on the critieria that the SEC presidents are using, Mizzou is a better choice than WVU. How is that discriminating? No one has questioned WVU fan support or on field product. However the last time I checked, the SEC is not looking to raise the level of on field. They are focused on the academics and TV markets. In those two areas Mizzou is the better choice.

BTW, if the man is talking bad "on" another man, how can he be outside the man's presence? Never mind. The explanation would have to say why he was on the man in the first place, and I don't want to know.
