Alabama-LSU Recruiting Notes

With the abundance of talent that will be on display in Tuscaloosa Saturday when Alabama hosts LSU, it seems appropriate to look at how the two schools have reached this level of play.

As ESPN analyst Jamie Newberg pointed out earlier this week, dominant recruiting has helped make Alabama and LSU the nation’s top two teams.

“Since Nick Saban has been at Alabama, no one has recruited better than him,” Newberg said at the Montgomery (Ala.) Quarterback Club on Monday. “And LSU’s not been too far behind.

“Les Miles has done incredibly well building on what Saban established there. Neither team is lacking for talent, that’s for sure. They’re the top two teams in the country and there’s a reason for that. They both have great coaches and they’ve recruited exceptionally well.”

That’s why plenty of top prospects will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend. Many of them are considering Alabama and LSU.

That includes safety Landon Collins from Geismar, La. Collins is considered the nation’s seventh-best prospect for the class of 2012 by ESPNU.

“It will be my official visit to Alabama,” Collins told ESPN.com. “I am looking forward to hanging around the coaches and players. I want to see how they handle the hype and adversity. I will be watching the coaches closely and see how they focus on this big game.”
