tradeassociation, Ole Miss was a lot better than "pretty good" back then. In fact it was the best program in the conference for a fifteen year period. For a period of five seasons ending in '63, Ole MIss lost a total of two regular season games.

Well, a common copout in cases like this, designed to avoid evaluating coaches on their job performance, is "well if you fire him, who will you get to replace him?" In this instance, it is actually true. Since the early 1970s (they were actually pretty good from the 50s until the early 70s) ... they haven't done a whole lot. And in Nutt, they have a guy who has proven that he can recruit and win games in the SEC. Rather than firing Nutt, who did lead them to consecutive Cotton Bowl victories, the most success that Ole Miss has had in a LONG time - even Eli Manning/David Cutcliffe only led them to 1 really good season - maybe the solution is to force Nutt to hire a new offensive staff. Except that Nutt just brought on David Lee and Gunter Brewer very recently. It just makes no sense to run the guy off after letting Ed Orgeron go 10-25 against what was a far weaker SEC West. Unless Ole Miss is absolutely certain of their ability to attract a top guy that is willing to cross swords with Saban, Miles, Chizik, Petrino and even Mullen in that division, there is no reason to be excessively hasty in making a change.

Tracer Round...

If you sign 37 -- whether you place them in jucos or not -- and you only have 15 on the team currently, that equals 22 wasted signatures. Out of 37 players who might possibly have landed at UM (eventually), 22 haven't. In my book that's losing 22 potential players. And I think the point is clear just the same: Nutt had a much-talked about class of 37 signees and out of all those names, only 15 are currently on the roster.

Thanks for reading,

John your math is off a little. You know teams can only sign 25 players to scholarships, which means that they had to "sign and place" 12 "signees". That means Ole Miss only "lost" 10 players, not 22.

I loved the little "Walking Dead" zombies. Absolutely hilarious.

On another note, we Hog fans tried to tell the Rebels what was going to happen, but did they listen? Oh yes, and the author of this story didn't mention that the 10-4 in 2006 and 8-4 in 2007 were with Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, and Peyton Hillis in the backfield. How do you lose four games with a backfield like that? Run left; run right; run up the middle; punt. Repeat. Blame player. That's how.

Funny how the attrition issue belongs to everyone, except Nutt. The Reverend is a toad, in self proclaimed prince's clothing. He needs to stay in Oxford for many years to come. Go Dawgs!
