One thing (for at least some of the refs) that I haven''t heard discussed is that when watching the game it was apparent that someone had a whistle in the stands. It seemed that every play had a whistle going off during the action. It would explain why the players didn't stop and the head referee might not have noticed that one of guys blew a whistle. Doesn't explain why the guy who did didn't step up though...

John, I know you said that you're not calling for heads, but maybe you should be? I believe you previously mentioned that Curles and his crew? have been involved in multiple controversial calls in the past; In addition to those you named, I can think of others. Intentional or not, it seems like Curles and his crew are regularly in the middle of a one, or more, controversies each year. This, to me, is a bigger deal then this one particular instance, because many of us have become highly skeptical of Curles and his crew.

We have the greatest league in the nation and are plagued with the most horrible officiating one could ever be cursed with. It is beyond my grasp how the officials can continue to be so terrible at their job on a weekly basis. I could understand if this was an isolated incident but it is not. It is constant. There are so many missed(overlooked) calls every week with any given team that goes unmentioned because we have become so used to it. I am calling for people's heads. I am sick of watching teams be effected by the refs in this league. I have heard the statement, we shouldn't be in the position to let the refs effect the game but in our league that is the nature of the beast. There are so many teams that compete on such a high level that one missed call can have a profound effect on the majority of our games in the SEC.

HoustonVol...

Did you not get the gist of what was written? The Tennessee/LSU game ended with Vol fans emailing me for a week that UT should have won because a player took his helmet off. I said that was junk then, and it's still junk now. Likewise, any Vandy fans screaming that they were "cheated out of a win" because of an inadvertent whistle are grasping for technicalities.

Thanks as always for reading,

I am tired of people pointing to the LSU/UT game last year. We lost it on the field and all of the calls were correct. UT had 13 players on the field. Foul. Another play. It was the defenses job to stop them, and they did not. The UNC game, UT was robbed by a bad rule that has now been corrected. The refs are not going to call a foul on a player taking his helment off after the game appears to be over. They did not do it for Cody when his belly blocked UT field goals, and will not do it in any end of game situation unless the helmet becomes a weapon and there is another play. So for the record - UT/LSU right call / UT/UNC we were screwed by the rules, not the refs. In both games, we still had the chance to win and did not. That is why beating Vandy was important - we won. The last three seasons we have lost those games.
