I think the PAC 12 flirtations are over, the general consensus out west is the PAC 12 presidents want nothing to do with Texas and Oklahoma. I can see Texas and ND going to the ACC. If that happens OU may suddenly be interested in joining the SEC. As much as I hate to say it, if the SEC ever does go to 16 and I hope they don't, it will be OU and OSU.

Sam Walton's daughters' husbands will be paying that exit fee at Mizzou. Most of us like the move. It will look even better when Texas and Oklahoma bolt the Big 12 and are replaced by Wyoming and Colorado State.

Given the crappy state of the economy for the last 5 to 10 years, I'd guess a lot of universities are facing the same issues.

It's great that Mizzou found such a great landing spot, but given the circumstances I'm a little worried that Mizzou athletics won't be able to generate the dollars to compete with the SEC big boys, at least until the Missouri economy turns around the state education budget resets itself back to where it use to be. All Mizzou fans can do is spend what they can to support Mizzou athletics and hope some of the big donors like the SEC move and come through with some big time donations.

I just wonder how much money Mizzou loses on non-SEC athletic programs like Wrestling, and if is in danger of going away.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to question the long term fiscal fruit being associated with Big 12 on a few levels. Among them you have the Big 12’s conditions of Tier 3 rights for individual institution benefit (a la LHN and forthcoming Sooner version) and concern about healthy funding for athletic departments. Some say Texas isn’t “playing fair” but that’s not the case since they’re operating under the guidelines of Big 12 individual institution T3 right use. I don’t think any of them foresaw the current scale of the LHN, or anything similar, and its associated conflict of interest effects (for the entire conference) being so negative either. It’s not a healthy foundation by allowing independently acting individual institutions in such matters and belies what’s currently being discussed in the SEC with all member institutions being interconnected and healthfully bonded together in some sort of an SEC network to share in.
I don’t know any rational Mizzou fans not thrilled with the conference change and are grateful to now be associated with a quality conference and long term, bonded together stability. Thank you SEC!!!!!

I got in a discussion with one of my Aggie friends at work about this very issue. Per the timeline released by the SEC/TAMU - the first call from Loftin to Slive occurred right about the time that the Texas state government was slashing billions out of the education budget. Plus the Texas State Government had to commit millions of dollars per state mandate to other universities (TTech, UH, UNT, UTD, UTSA) to upgrade them to tier one schools. So A&M was faced with a future of reduced state funding and that funding was being spread to more schools. I have felt all along that the Longhorn Network was really a smoke screen behind the reason that A&M wanted into the SEC. It is easier to sell to the public that TU is not playing fair than to try to whine about how tax dollars are being spent, especially when the state mandate was approved by the voters. Especially when the schools in the SEC work together on projects and as a collective are better schools than the schools in the B12.
