Mike Davis is no longer committed to Florida.
The running back from Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Ga., told MrSEC he doesn’t plan to consider the Gators as he attempts to make his college decision.
Davis said he had yet to inform Florida’s coaches of his decision but planned to do so on Sunday night. He declined to give a reason for falling out of favor with Florida’s coaching staff.
“It was just a misunderstanding with something that happened,” Davis said.
Davis took an official visit to Tennessee this weekend. The Vols became an intriguing option to Davis in large part because of their need for immediate help at running back.
“That factors in a lot in what college I go to,” said Davis, who was hosted by UT freshman linebacker Curt Maggitt.
Davis said he also plans to take official visits to Alabama, South Carolina, Florida State and Miami.
Davis, who said he plans to make his final decision on National Signing Day on Feb. 1, said Florida State’s coaching staff has recruited him the hardest.
“The coaches check on me every day,” he said. “They’re just constantly after me.”
Davis could have his teammates after him to choose South Carolina or Miami.
Stephenson defensive back Kyle Fleetwood and defensive tackle Carlos Hood are committed to South Carolina. Linebacker Raphael Kirby has given his pledge to Miami.
