Remember that Bill Byrne is the AD at Texas A&M. Bill Byrne has probably met Dan Mullen, and is certainly very familar with him, since his son, Greg Byrne, hired Dan Mullen at MSU.
You are so correct, and I'm a MSU fan and most fans won't admit it, that Mullen's agent is completely pushing his name at all of these schools. Anyone who doesn't believe that has had their head in the sand for the past twenty years of college football. It is the way the game of coaching hires is played. ESPN saying that Dan Mullen is a leading candidate at PSU was also a push by Mullen's camp, because Mullen has some very good friends in Bristol, Conn.
Can't see Dabo leaving Clemson for College Station. That is a lateral move.

Sumlin would seem to be the obvious pick…his Cougars got rocked when a BCS game was riding on the outcome…natural fit for the Aggies

It sure seems like A&M is not that enamored with Larry Fedora. He seems like he would be the obvious pick given that he grew up an A&M fan and just put a beatdown on the other main contender, Kevin Sumlin, but A&M appears to view him as a backup plan.
